I have completed my 2nd day of the meat fast successfully. 0 carbs. Does anyone know how long I can do this safely ? I think it is working but I am afraid to say for sure because of my pattern of bouncing weight. Down 2 Up 2 Down 1 Up 2 Down 3 Up 2 Always ending where I started. Also do I introduce carbs slowly into my diet or what ? As of last night I was still not in ketosis, I just went in to test it but I forgot, so I will have to wait until this bottle of water that I am drinking kicks in

Is is possible that you have a bad/old batch of ketostix Sandi? Your body

appears to be either really resistant to ketosis or you may have defective

strips. Are you on any medications?

I wouldn't stay on the meat fast for too long - your body needs the fiber

and nutrients you get from veggies. Most people tend to do it for 3 days at

a time. I would add a salad or 2/3 cup veggie with your lunch and dinner

when reintroducing carbs and see how you go from there.

No Sandi I don't know how long you can do it safely but I am sure someone on

the List knows. Are you sure it isn't in the book? I thought I read something

about it. I don't have mine with me. I'm an official Atkins Missionary and I

lent it to my neighbor. ;-)

I guess it is possible that I have a bad batch. I just checked and completely beige. Not a trace of pink. The last time I was on Atkins, I had no trouble getting into ketosis but I also didn't lose. No I am NOT on any medications. Not even an aspirin.

Today is day 3. I think I will stay on 0 today and maybe tomorrow and then on Sunday treat myself with some cauliflower. I think cauliflower is better then salad because I don't need dressing on it. I can put butter on which will increase the fat.

If anyone thinks that is not a good idea, please let me know. I am desperate here and will do whatever I have to do to be able to stay on this WOL.

Which brand are you using Sandi? I tried two kinds and one I almost never saw

myself in ketosis. My favorites are the Bayer Ketostix.

I am using DiaScreen. Where do you get the Bayer ?

The meat fast is done, primarily to get into ketosis. DANDR says 'several

days', not weeks.

Basically, if you do induction, and don't get into ketosis, you can try the

meat fast before you try the fat fast...all to try and get into induction

(or back into induction). Neither meat fast, nor fat fast are long term

eating plans.

DANDR, p 230

It is not called meat fast, but is described as induction diet - nothing but

meat, fowl, seafood, cheese, eggs - no salad. Fats are OK.
