Guest guest
Hi Tina, I believe using a straw does promote gas because you tend to take in air that way. Guest guest
Hi Tina, Yes, I went to Dr. Owens. I drank 5 shakes a day for about 2 weeks. Then I dropped to three so the doctor said to add skim milk instead of water. I had cut them down because I just gagged each time I drank them. Anyway, the milk just about killed me with horrible gas pains and then throwing up. That lasted for 12 hours and from then on I couldn't drink another shake. I got dehydrated and unable to eat anything. I forced myself to drink water and started eating small amounts of fish and a few bites of apple. Just this week I can say that I am really hydrated. When I wake up in the morning my mouth is no longer horribly dry. I enjoyed the nutrition class. The only thing that bothered me was when Tina said we should take Tums. We talked about calcium citrate and she agreed it was probably the best, but said that the lab reports from people using Tums were excellent. I couldn't remember how to counter that claim. I remember saying the labs weren't the best indication. She said that there were new studies showing Tums is good for your calcium needs. She was also advocating those caramel calcium chews. She told me the discomfort I feel everytime I drink water or eat is normal and it will go away. That made me feel a little better thinking there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am now eating small meals of lean meats, fruits and looking forward to feeling good again. I haven't added a lot of vegetables yet, at least not enough to count. I'm taking a chewable multiple vitamin. I think you will get a lot out of the class. She is patient and willing to answer all your questions. I think we were there for about an hour to an hour and a half. I am not a model patient. When I was younger I use to go on protein diets and enjoy them. I've tried probably 10 different shakes and they all turn my stomach. I am hoping in the future my response to them will change. Be proud of yourself for following the doctor's orders. I'm sure you will be the better for it!!! in California Open RNY - 03/29/02 272.5/242.5 - as of 04/24/02 Re: Post Op questions(LONG) CINDY- How are you doing the HMR shakes? you went to Dr Owens too right ? Guest guest
I'm 3 wks post op and seem to have a prob wearing a Bra. Is this normal?. I wasn't able to wear a bra for almost 3 months after my surgery. Now I have a hernia that is so close to my bra line its getting difficult again. Also when can you take a bath, where you can just sit and soak for a while, inscion wet the whole time. Due to a wound infection I wasn't able to take baths for almost 5 months after my surgery. I can tell you that the first one was a real treat! I sat in the whirlpool and soaked and soaked and soaked.
Guest guest
I use the pro score 100 choc. and I add Peanut butter to it once in a while. Dawn Post Op questions(LONG) Thought I would start a new thread of Post Op questions. This will help the Pre-ops as well. I have a few myself so maybe someone can answer mine. I'm 3 wks post op and seem to have a prob wearing a Bra. Is this normal?. I had Open so the inscion is real close the wear the bra is, doesnt rest on it but right above it. I find afterabout a hour I am hurting and need to get it off. If this is normal then when can you comfortably wear one? Also when can you take a bath, where you can just sit and soak for a while, inscion wet the whole time. I miss my baths, I have a HUGE tub and love to relax in it!!! And one more, What can you do to make the shakes more TASTY!!! I have some idea's but thought maybe other people have some as well that can help the pre-ops or recent post-ops that have a hard time with them, like myself. I use sugar-free fudgesicles in the Choc ones and frozen fruit (no sugar added) for the Vanilla ones. Someone else here suggested sugar free Tang in the Vanilla, I will try that and see if it works. Any other Ideas??? If anyone else has any question to throw out there for recent post- ops LET " S HERE THEM!! and pre-ops that have questions about right after SX. Oaky I think this is long enough!!! LOL ((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))) Tina Las Vegas 4/9/02 288/268 as of 4/22/

Guest guest
I wore a binder for the first couple of weeks....it was long and so my bra basicaly fit over it. That worked out pretty well....I was " addicted " to my binder and felt lost without it. I waited till my one month post op check up before I took a tub bath...I wanted him (doc) to make the call that it was healed well enough to do that. As for the shakes...I finally found one that I like and I do okay without adding to it but I did get the Irish Cream syrup from and it does give it a good twist for variety....hope this helps....Annee ---------------------------------
Guest guest
ANNE- what shake did you finally like?,I have many samples from vitalady, I just tried the Pro blend 55 swiss choc with some cookie dough syrup and couldnt stomach it, maybe I'm not putting enough sryup in. Guest guest
Tina, I had open incision and I had the same problem with my bra. what I ended up doing was using a bra with front enclosures and not using the bottom half of the enclosures and that way it didn't rest on my staples or incision. when I was around home I just went without it. It took about a month until I could wear a bra like I used to. as far as bathing, I would doubt they would want you to soak your incision in a bath yet. That would be one I would ask the doctor. I think I was told showers were okay but not baths until incision was all healed. Hope this helps. in West Michigan
