Guest guest
Patty -- When you has your test for celiac, had you been off gluten, or had you been eating it? A lot of people do not know that they need to be EATING gluten for a period of time before being tested. If memory serves, that includes biopsies. I am sure your doc told you that, if you got all the way to the biopsy stage. Just want to make sure. Dawn
Guest guest
Dawn, I am not sure if this was meant for Kenda or for me, but when I was tested, I was eating a normal diet that included gluten foods. I never have been on a gluten free diet, and I love bread, unfortunately! I have never had a biopsy...maybe that was Kenda. My test was done by Entero Labs, and they use a stool test to detect the presence of anti-gluten antibodies. Guest guest
I had both a blood test and biopsy and I had been eating gluten containing foods prior to both. My daughter went through the blood test and was positive so our pediatrician put her on a gluten-free diet. He suggested we see a pediatric gastro for a biopsy but we weren't going to wait two months for him to scope her when she was well within days of avoiding gluten. We certainly didn't want to poison her to have a biopsy. As long as she avoids wheat, she's fine.
