Hubby went to doc today. His cholesterol is high, 265. want to put him on cholesterol meds, but need to further test the liver now first. There is something with the liver, awaiting those blood tests to come back after today. His fat enzymes? well that is what he said anyhow, that they are really high. She gave him referral to the cardiologist and is ordering a stress treadmill test. She did an ekg in the office, but it looked ok. Speaking of specialists, esp this time of the year, he cannot get into the cardio until after xmas. She said if he has chest pain like that again, to go to the ER immediately. And as I said, it is very very close to our house. He is to start cutting the fats and cholesterol in the diet asap. I need to find some site or if anyone knows of some recipes to share, I need some low cholesterol, low fat recipe sites. I will try and search the web. I LOVE yogurts, he hates them. Maybe if they are like that one recipe, it has angel food cake, fresh fruit and yogurt, he may find that good. It is never easy when you have to change your eating habits. When my colon was bleeding, I had to eat only stuff that would digest in my stomach only for a month. I drank a lot of ensure. I know it bites, but what are you going to do? I am just trying to find some recipes that are appealing and interesting. I think this will help him from going into shock.... :-) I thought, last night I made broiled boneless skinless chicken breasts, steamed broccoli, brown rice, and a mixed green salad. I am ok with stuff like that, but I must admit, for someone who likes things like he does, it can be like hospital food ..... lol.... I did season the chicken with different herbs and spices, and it did come out juicy for being breast. I also added nf chicken broth for the rice. I think most was ok, but that rice really had him going. LOL...... Brown rice is so different. But, I drink rice milk, and it is derived from brown rice. I just wish I could get him to change to that for awhile. They even have it with added calcium, vanilla, chocolate, regular, etc.... and when eating it in cereal or oatmeal, it is not as noticeable. I personally do not think it even has a bad taste, but it is different than cow milk. If I buy anything below 2 % milk , he hates it. I may be running away from home much sooner that I ever thougth. LOL... No really, I told him, I am willing to help, support, and research recipes. I will not be the bad guy or have things taken out on me. He is a grown man, he can either work with me, or do as he pleases. I am no longer going to be the mommy or caretaker for him, my parents, etc..... anymore. He has this fear ,lol..... he sees some of the stuff I have eaten and it seems to freak him out. Thanks. I seen some good recipes on the site, and I also did not even go the other links it provided either. I saved in my favorites so I can go back in a bit again. The more recipes I can accumalate the better. I have found some really good recipes on it. Also family.com has some good ones. Hope is going to be doing what the Doctor tells him too.
