I am only getting my period every other month since starting this WOE. I got

a checkup in April to make sure it wasn't the onset of menopause and the doc

says my hormone level is fine.

Re: TOM question

Theory is that hormones stored in fat are released when you are losing, and

wreak havoc with menstrual cycle.

Pam,

I kept getting hormone checks, too. And my doctor kept saying " normal range

numbers " . Then one day, two years ago, BOOM! Last period, that's all she

wrote. Surprise menopause!

For the last year I was having periods, there were about every other month.

No other symptoms. Then, the just stopped, and three months later, a

turbo-powered hot flash hit me. Didn't take me long to get me some of them

hormones, Honey!

Everyone is different. And even though your hormones might be measuring

within normal parameters today, that doensn't mean you aren't

perimenopausal. I was 42 at menopause. Do you mind if I ask your age?

44 this past February. This might sound dumb, but what is a hot flash like?

It starts out feeling like you are looking into a warm fireplace. Then it

spreads. All over your body. And intensifies. And you start panting and

it is difficult to breathe. Then the sweat starts. Pouring off your body

and drenching your clothes or sheets. I would regularly get one about 3

minutes after turning off the lights. In addition to about every hour

through the day and several times in the night.

And you haven't LIVED until you get a COLD FLASH. Bone deep cold that

nothing relieves for more than a few seconds until it passes. Coats,

roaring fireplaces, electric blankets, hot drinks, NOTHING.

I know I will be sorry I said this but I have never had one. And I am in my middle 50s and finished with my TOM.

Please whoever is in charge of giving out the hot and cold flashes or flushes or whatever, you didn't hear me say that.

I cannot let this pass! Since you've never had the pleasure of having either

a cold or hot flash, I will be more than happy to share some of mine with you

Hi Guys: I also went through early menopause and my doctors didn't

have a clue. My TOMs were always pretty erratic, but from the age of

35 - 40, they were really bad. I would start and not stop, stop and

not start. My Dr did a zillion tests (some I definitely would not

like to repeat!) That last year I had like 2 TOMs and then there were

none. The really weird thing is I never had PMS before going through

menopause, after menopause...I became a classic case! I am 46 now,

the first 2 years after my last TOM, I still had all the symptoms

like I would start (bloating, cravings, " that " feeling). Over the

last few years, this has subsided to only once or twice a year. I

also never had hot flashes (just the PMS). My Drs won't let me take

Harmones since both my Grandmothers and my mother had breast cancer.

The Drs did say that it takes 3 to 5 years to go through the

menopause process, it doesn't just happen overnight.
