You just has Gastric bypass? How are you feeling? You are anemic. Were your

I had the gastric bypass 13 months ago. I didn't know anything about having frees tested until I joined this group, so I didn't have them tested before. As for how I'm feeling, I'm tired a lot. Sometimes, I think it is from getting up at 5 every morning. Maybe a combination of low iron, getting up early, and low free t3.

Sorry about that posting so many times. I guess that is another problem the computer has. Thanks for responding.

First and foremost you need your iron up. Were you ever anemic before the surgery? Did you lose a lot of blood during the surgery? Does the surgeon know you are so anemic? You need the iron up and your thyroid meds increased. The iron that you need is going to block the thyroid a bit. What ever thyroid dose they give you in an increase, you need to get them to give you a bit more because of that. The two DR's need to work together right now. That makes your life difficult if they start the "that is the others Dr.'s responsibility"

The food you do eat needs to be iron rich. red meat, spinach, beets, liver, etc. NO SOY DRINKS. I have found many people that had bypass are told to drink soy drinks. I would feel terrible with those numbers/

Jamy,

Thanks so much for responding. I'm 13 months out from the surgery as I said

before. I had my blood tested every 3 months since then. This is the first

time my iron was low. So, I don't think I lost a lot of blood. I just

think my body isn't absorbing iron the way it is supposed to. Yes, the

surgeon knows. He told me to take an over the counter supplement. I'm

taking carbonyl iron 50 mg twice a day. I need to take more Synthroid? My

t3's were low. My PCP told me that Synthroid helped t4, but not t3. Then

he asked when I was going to see my surgeon. I think I'm going to call him

back, and ask him what I need to do. Maybe I'll give him another visit...

but I don't think I should have to. Gosh, all that food you mention to eat

is just nasty to me, except red meat. I just don't eat red meat much

anymore because it has a lot of fat. I don't drink soy drinks either. I

guess that is one good thing going for me. Thanks again!

I know a lot of people that have had the operation. Several different kinds but the same end results. How and what you eat becomes VERY important. Those I know that are feeling well after a year, eat a lot of things they may not like and take a great deal of top supplements. You need Armour . No, I do not think either of them will give me armour. The surgeon only

deals with gastric bypass issues. My PCP sort of laughed at me when I told

him that armour was better than synthroid. I don't know. If there is just

a drug(synthroid) for t4 is there a drug just for t3?

yes, it's called Cytomel... perhaps you can talk them into that.... it

would be far better than T4 alone....

Hi !:)

Good to hear the procedure went well...In a thyroidectomy, do they put

you under general or local anesthesia?..I have never read any postings

from anyone who has had one...were you hypo or hyper??

Take care and rest up!! :)

Want to motivate them? Say to them exactly what you've said in this letter, namely that, what information you've gleaned has been from lay personnel, that is, thyroid patients, and that you would like some info from them, being as they are trained for this. (Hehe!)

Re: Re: (unknown)

Hi Lindy,

The aneshesia that they gave me knocked me compleyely out. When they finally woke me up 3 hours later, the surgery was over, and the only thing the Dr. told me here was that I was not hyper. So I dont know if that means I am hypo or what. I go to a military hospital and it seems like when I ask questions they just brush them off, but that is one of the questions that I am going to ask tommorow. Believe it or not, the little things I did learn about what I have came from the support of this group, not from my doctor. Thanks for the support,
