Can anyone tell me what this test is and what it is used for?

If I'm allergic to the silicone shell of my saline implants will it

show?

Does a doctor have to order it?

God Bless,

Liz

Liz, The test shows if you're sensitive (this is different that allergic) to a broad range of things made from silica/silicone products. Lana (who is not a member of our group) knows more than anyone I know of about silicone hypersensitivity testing . . . There's something called the "Elias/Act" that should allow people to get tested. I don't understand this though. Lana <lanadearest@...> should be able to answer your questions. Lana and her sons were found to be hypersenitive to silicone . . . When she removed everything silica/silicone from their lives, they abruptly overcame their serious health problems. A doctor would have to order the testing . . . I guess the doctor would know where to send the specimens. There are undoubtly other reasons people

get sick from breast implants . . . So even if you're not hypersensitive to silicone, you may be sick from the bacteria/staph/mold. There is a silicone antibody test, although I don't know if that's

used to test for allergies, or if it's used to test for an immune

response to silicone. My rheumatologist ordered it. I had the

antibody test and tested negative, but I don't really put alot of

weight in the results of that test, because I know I got sick

immediately after getting implants, but I don't know why. It would be

nice to know what causes us all to react to the implants, but since

there are no major studies into why we get sick, it's kind of a crap

shoot.

Sis, Thanks for the reminder . . . Deb Pettitt is doing a study with money she's raising on her own. She owns a research clinic. The primary focus of the clinic is testing drugs for drug manufacturer's. However, she was very ill from breast implants herself and had decided to put the resouces of her company to work. She needs women who are going to be explanted to contact her . . . She has a specimen kit to send them. I don't think there's any charge. Deb Pettitt <dpettittyork@...>, Liz at York Clinical <liz@...>. Liz is handling things for her.Rogene
