Welcome Shelby! I joined the group in early August - but it feels like I have been here months, based on all I have learned. It's been emotional learning all of the info, but it's been a very empowering experience. I know it's hard but try not to get panicky or scared the more you learn. You have had them in this long, it's ok to research and learn and 'interview' surgeons now. But, you may have found the light at the end of the tunnel. I got mine in at 1996 when I was 24 - I am set to get mine out in November. When you are on the main group page, check out Files, etc. - all the choices to the left. There is also a list of recommended drs. You will hear a few names over and over as the most trusted ones, but there is no reason you can't embark on your own investigative journey, too. May I ask what major city you are located in? Perhaps someone would have a recommendation.

I, too, had a 1st consult regarding explant with a LOOOOOOSER (who happened to be my first ps) who wanted to pop them out in 30 minutes and who also thought I was nuts to take them out. So, welcome, again. Don't rush yourself - you may be at the finish line of the agony, and I truly believe you'll find info here that will help you make the best decisions to give you a whole new lease on life. Good luck!! fuzzheadferret <tanflgirl@...> wrote: HiMy name is Shelby and I have had saline implants since March 1995 - I was 21 - thin, energetic and happy...I have been going downhill ever since. The migraines and the neck and shoulder pain started about 3-4 months after I got my implants, then the fatigue hit me around 6 months after. I had a period where I couldn't work at all, but I am back at work now, although I miss at least one day a week. My head hurts, my joints ache and I feel like crying most of the time. I catch EVERY cold that comes around and they usually turn into a sinus infection, bronchitis or even pneumonia. It seems I am ALWAYS sick.It never occurred to me that it was possibly my implants causing all of this until about a week ago - I was up late one night ( a lot like tonight - did I mention the insomnia?) watching a show on MTV about breast implants and they featured a woman who was sick from her implants - I immediately started

researching online and had my "a-ha moment" of horror...I have had one consultation so far (he wasn't a winner) and have another one scheduled in 2 weeks. I am scared to have them removed after 11 years, but see no alternative if I could possibly become healthy again - or at least HEALTHIER than I am. I am miserable. And I am miserable to be around. I honestly cannot stand who I have become... I am happiest in bed on my heating pad - and being left alone. Sad, huh? Thank you for reading this. I look forward to getting to know all of you through this journey - I am so sorry that we are brought together by this horrible thing we have in common...Big hugs,Shelby

Good Morning Shelby, I am so glad you saw that show. I think that may be the one that Shari was on. She is a member of this group also. I am also so glad you found this site. This site literally saved my life. I came here last year in December. My family came back from a Christmas vacation to Orlando, Fl. I had been suffering muscle weakness, stiffness, pain, pain in my joints, numbness, tingling, mental confusion, chronic fatigue, dry eyes, and was losing my hair. I cant recall if I am missing some. Anyway, I had it. No one could tell me why I was suffering so bad. In fact, just to enjoy Disney with my kids, we had to rent a wheelchair. I was only 32 at the time. I was so fed up with doctors telling me that there is nothing wrong with me, or that it was "all in my head." I started recerching some of my symptoms individually, and one night I came across

the website of one of the members on this site. Her story was mine, just as your story is mine. I felt like I was running down the hill of my health. You know when you start out running, then you can bearly keep up and end up falling, then you roll. I was rolling at that point. I started having heart issues, which caused serious blood vessel issues. I thought I was dying. I was explanted in Feb. of this year after six years of having my implants. I know you have them in for a lot longer then I did, and I bet you are scared. We are here to help you. The ladies here are so knowledgable. Take the time to ask as many questions as you may have, and no question is a stupid one. Take care Dear Shelby, fuzzheadferret <tanflgirl@...> wrote: HiMy name is Shelby and I have had saline implants since March 1995 - I was 21 - thin, energetic and happy...I have been going downhill ever since. Hi Shelby,

Where do you live? I live in New Jersey and drove to Ohio to use

Dr. Feng. Others have used Dr. Kolb in Atlanta, Dr. Huang in

Denver, Dr. Melmed in Dallas, and recently used Dr. Schnarrs -

I think in Virginia. If you tell us where you live, perhaps people

can tell you about their experiences with some of these doctors or

recommend others. Dr. Feng was fabulous.

I want to add Dr. Sian from Hawaii to the list, she was my

surgeon who removed the reidual capsule from the left breast, she is

very nurturing and caring, and also knows that this is happening to

healthy women,

Hi Dear Shelby, I am so sorry you are going through this nightmare too! I am glad you found us though, and I hope that as you keep reading and receiving information from this wonderful group of ladies, you will find the strength to move forward toward better health. It's a journey, alright, but I think you just found the starting point and from here, things can only get better. MTV has been a great help to us. They were so willing to tell the stories of a number of the women who have come from this group. They got just short segments, but they were important segments! First things first, you will have to make a firm decision about explant and then find yourself a good explanting doctor....one who understands the need for a properly done explant. Not all plastic surgeons can remove implants properly. (They sure can all jump at the chance to put them in us, but finding

one to take them out is a whole different story!) As you will read, a properly done explant is one in which the doctor removes not only the implant, but the scar tissue surrounding the implant as well. It is done either through a procedure called 'en bloc' removal, or a total capsulectomy. En bloc is usually reserved for those with silicone gel implants, and if you have saline, a total capsulectomy is usually what is required at the least. What kind of work do you do? I got sick within about 6-8 months of implantation, also. I can't imagine being sick for so long...you got yours in several years before I did. Mine have been out for 8 and a half years now. I have my life back fully--I am so thankful that I do, but it has not been an easy journey at all. It took alot of work, patience and faith. And I do have an autoimmune disease due to my implants. It is

Hashimoto's thyroid disease, and I am also gluten intolerant. It makes life a little different for me, but I have gotten rid of all of my implant associated symptoms, and I have a full life! At one time, I thought my life was over and that I would never be the same again. So, have hope! You can improve and see better days! Let us know how we can help you....I am so sorry that we have been brought together through this common thread of illness also, but if we have learned anything, it is that with taking care of our bodies through detox, we can get our life back. This is valuable information that you will not hear from the doctors in this country! I can't say all of them are bad, but there are just so very few doctors knowledgeable about breast implant illnesses and how to get better once the symptoms start to escalate. There are so many that have made the choice to remain

ignorant and poo-poo our very real health concerns. We're here to fill that gap. Where are you? You will probably want to start searching for an explant doctor, so be sure to check out our list. Terri, Most definitely, let's add this woman to our list! We can always use new surgeons in more states, and I am excited to be able to add Hawaii--can I use your name as a reference in case anyone has questions about her? Does she have a website at all? Hi Sis!

I live in Florida... I considered flying to Atlanta, but my Mom and I

agreed to try everyone in FL yet. If I am not happy with any of the

consults that will be my next try. I have heard a lot of good things

about Dr. Barnett in Sarasota - and one good reccomendation for Dr.

Azurin in Coral Springs. We'll see. I won't settle, I know that for

sure. I am so scared. Thanks for your help.

Hugs,

TErri, That's awesome that the info you gave out helped save another women from making a terrible mistake! Can you give me the full contact information for your surgeon?
