It's not just Vancouver. It's a worldwide problem I'm sure.

they get stolen.. on cold mornings we can see up to 4 vehicles stolen that

way....DUH.... We have not seen much snow here in Denver this year.. I am

kinda jealous of all the snow everyone else seems to be getting,, nothing

like a good blizzard!!!!!

Keep your humor and go sledding when you get off shift!!

Yeah, we have seen those too. And they are not common at all for Indiana.

What is strange is that they are hollow inside. We even have some behind the

fire station, albeit really small ones.

Miss JW, you hush up!!! No blizzards please!!!

I was reading about the weather back East and wondered how Tree and Jackie

were doing and know I know.

I asked our new chief about the war food and he sorta rolled his eyes at me

and then I said, well it is winter too. That got his attention and he plans

on discussing it at his weekly EOC meeting this week.

But no only has there been snow in the East, one on line news story said an

apartment building outside of Knoxville, TN was damaged by a mud slide (Kim K

were you working?) and somewhere in Florida was a tornado. Like JW said,

we're hurting for snow in the Denver area. I'm just a little way west of

Denver in the foothills. January I measured 2 inches of snow fall and so far

this month, 31 inches thanks to a 16 inch storm.

My best wishes to all the dispatchers having to deal with extra ordinary

weather.

I remember those days. Three months ago I would have been there.

Now it's 19 degrees outside and I am looking out over a total white

winter wonderland from my third floor apartment in upper Northwest

Washington. We got just under 2 feet of snow, 2 of the 3 area airports

have been closed all day, and 3 new employees who were to report to me

first thing Monday morning for their security in-briefing have been told

to forget Monday and we'll try for Tuesday. I don't even want to think

about trying to dig out our POVs tomorrow.

Most snow I've seen since the snow storm of Veteran's Day 1987 when the

DC area forecasters said yes, there would be snow, but not even enough

to even sweep off your sidewalk. It started snowing and didn't stop

until we had a foot of the stuff on the ground.

It sure looked pretty coming down today, though.

I've never seen one but was talking with a relative who works for Putnam

County near Greencastle (about 40 miles southwest of Indianapolis) who

said he saw one alongside one of the highways that was a large as a

small car. He even turned around and went back to make certain it wasn't

really a small car that ran off the road and gotten covered by the snow.

I picture them as being kind of like snow-made tumbleweeds.

Here in Lynchburg I think we would be happier if it was just snow. We were

lucky and got a good 2 inches of ice under what ever it is that's falling.

Been listening to my squad radio and haven't had very many accidents. I think

most people are just staying home like they should for a change. Not many

places to go. even the mall closed yesterday.

Not only do they lock their keys in running vehicles while warming

they get stolen.. on cold mornings we can see up to 4 vehicles stolen

that

~~~~~~~~~~~
Responding 2 days later and a victim of the snow myself. My foot
slipped off a step trying to shovel my stoop on Sunday. Friend in a
Jeep finally came and took me to the ER about 24 hours later when the
swelling and pain wouldn't go down. Verdict? A 2nd degree right
ankle strain. I'm in a cast and on crutches. Dumb neighbors won't
help out by clearing my sidewalk and one of them told me to send my
kids out to do it! My kids are 9,9, 8 and 5 and there's about 6
inches of packed ice and snow on my short sidewalk (I live in a
townhouse). They won't help us, but they piled 5 ft of snow in front
of my van shoveling their vehicles out - meaning it will be April
before we can get out of here. Hubby, who's disabled and has COPD,
has what we think is strep with a very high fever. Doctor called an
antibiotic in and a dear friend was kind enough to retrieve it for me.
Praying I don't need to call work to get a medic to take him to the
ER.
We live in Prince County, VA and received around 16 inches of
snow and sleet. I'm taking my 2 days shifts off, but starting
Thursday they'll come get me for my 2 night shifts.
As for stolen cars.... I took one not too long ago. Panicky person
who'd only gone back inside for a minute and saw it heading down the
street when she came back out. Five minutes later I took another one
in the same neighborhood. Nicer car. Sure enough, when the police
got there, they found the 1st car on the street still running with the
keys in it....... I think leaving your car running unlocked and
unattended has got to be one of the stupidest things one can do.
