I am still confused about the proper procedure for saline explant. I

went to my PS and he said it would be outpatient for $900. My inplants

are behind the muscle and do a capsulectomy could puncture a lung and

be dangerous. Do we need to do a capsulectomy and en bloc with saline

implants? Thank you for all your support and help.

Your plastic surgeon is describing his ability,

not the way it should be. I would definitely

look elsewhere, as he is not the one who should

remove your implants (or anyone else's implants).

It's important to have a capsulectomy whether you have saline or silicone. There is evidence that women whose capsules have been left behind have complications later. A good PS who is experienced at en bloc will be able to do it without risk of puncturing a lung. My implants were behind the muscle and my en bloc explant went fine.

There is another site you might want to check out, where lots of women post their stories of explant, and there is a forum there too-- www.explantation.com .

Where do you live? Do you have insurance or are you going to pay out-of-pocket for your explant?

We are all here to help you figure this out.

Hi Bindi,

I live in San Diego, CA I am planning to pay out of pocket, I have insurance but did not think it would be covered. What is the typical fee when you do a capsulectomy and en bloc? Thanks again for your help!

It sounds like he is trying to scare you so he doesn't have to work so hard at getting the implants out right. Yes, you still need a total capsulectomy. I had mine out en bloc and mine were saline. Mine were also under the muscle. No problems. If you find a surgeon who knows what they are doing and is not afraid to do it RIGHT, then you don't have anything to worry about. I'd keep looking, and not settle for less than the best to do this important surgery. It may mean the difference between healing or not. , You have an excellent plastic surgeon in San Diego that removes implants properly. His name is Dr. Gilbert Lee. You can see his website here: http://www.changesplasticsurgery.com/san_diego_plastic_surgeon/dr_lee.html You may want to call his office and talk to him about the need for a total capsulectomy and see how they handle it. Ilena Rosenthal knows his work and has given him high points. Dr. Gilbert Lee of San Diego knows how to remove the implants

correctly. It is about $5000 in Denver, do not know about Dr. Lee.

I live in NorCal but went to Melmed in Dallas-- it cost me about $6,000 with the procedure, two plane tickets and hotel and all. It sounds like a lot, but is actually on the low end of what's out there, and it was worth it to me to go to someone I felt good about. I know there is someone in San Diego who has been recommended for en bloc:

Dr. Gilbert LeePlastic Surgery11515 El Camino RealSuite 150San Diego, CA, 92130Phone: (858) 720-1440

Hope that helps!

Puncture a lung!! Good Lord!! I've never heard anyone say anything

like that, it's just an excuse not to do the capsulectomy.

No, it can happen. It's a risk factor for the surgery. Your doctor

should tell you that.
