Guest guest
I absolutely love Beth 's insights into life. Her books are amazing....my husband and I are watching a 10-week video of hers together right now, and it is awesome! Thanks for this! Were I to count them, theywould outnumber the grains of sand." (Psalms 139:17-18) We live in a day of amazing science and medicine that enables grandparents to see their grandchild even before they are born. When my daughter was six months pregnant she had a 3D ultrasound done. The doctor's office was painted pink and blue; everything just spoke "baby." The technician turned on the screen that was right next to and I got to sit very close--right in front of the screen. Suddenly this form takes place on the screen and I watched my grandson inside his mother's womb for fifteen minutes of his life. I was spellbound. I spoke to the screen and said, "Baby boy, do you have any idea how much we love you already?" He would lift up his chin and put his hand on his face. He turned his little head, oblivious to anything we were doing. And it occurred to me, we love him like this and he doesn't even know we are alive. He brings nothing to this mix. He didn't ask to be conceived. He never laid eyes on us. He doesn't even know that his mother who carries him around inside of her is a wonderful creature! Later as and I focused on the baby's color photo from the ultrasound, I thought, "That's us!" Before we knew to love God, He looked at us in our mother's womb and said, "Do you have any idea how you are loved?" When you brought nothing to the mix, God's thoughts were toward you and they were thoughts with a plan. How differently would we live life if we believe that God is thinking about us? Can you imagine Him sitting there all night watching and waiting for us to wake up? He's thinking, "Don't hit that snooze button again. I am ready to talk." What kind of God is that, who thinks of us that significantly? However, He is not the only one with an intentional plan for your life. God's purpose is to show His glory through your life, to give you hope and a future. He plans to prosper you in the things that really matter; things like satisfaction, fulfillment, fruit bearing, peace of mind, and joy. Satan's plan is to steal, kill and destroy in order to prevent God from getting glory. Ephesians 6:10-12 tells us to put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to take our stand against the devil's schemes. God's design is highly personalized and perfectly timed. Acts 13:36 says, "For when had served God's purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep, he was buried with his fathers and his body decayed." had one shot at it; one time around the garden. He served God's purpose in his own generation. God has a purpose for you in your generation and it is absolutely critical that you walk in the progressive revelation of His purpose. When everything else is said and done, we want the bottom line of our lives to be, "Did we serve God's purpose in our own generation?" Your name can be put into that verse. "When (your name) had served God's purpose in her own generation, (he/she) fell asleep." I am not spiritualizing you as some sort of super person in the Word of God, but understand that was flesh and blood just as we are. All we have is this slice of time to serve God's purpose in our own generation. When that time is over, all that will matter is whether or not what He had planned for us was fulfilled. If you think that you don't have a part in God's big agenda, you could not be more mistaken. In the midst of a crowded street, a mall, school or a workplace, you stick out to Him. He knows the thoughts He has for you -- plans to prosper you and bring hope for your future ( 29:11). That plan is thoroughly thought through, deliberate and intentional. Don't let the stronghold of insignificance squelch your belief in God's plans. He is the wildest ride you will ever take and that ride lasts for your entire life as you submit to the Holy Spirit's power to keep you on course. This WeekTake this truth to heart: Before you even existed, God said, "Child, do you have any idea how loved you are?" Before you served Him or had your first unselfish thought, God completely and lavishly loved you. Prayer"Father, I see in the word that nothing gets to touch my life that is not in keeping with your purpose for me in my own generation. I desire to walk in the fulfillment of all you designed. Please give me the power of the Holy Spirit to stay on course. This devotional was adapted from Beth's teachings on LIFE Today. Beth continues the series "God's Purpose For You" this Wednesday.
