Thanks, , devoted wife of possible chiarian Please read Dr. Milhorat's research paper from last May and bring it with you to your appt. You can find it at http://members.tripod.co.uk/chiari2000/drmilhorat.htm The latest research supports that the degree of herniation isn't correlated with the degree of symptoms. I like to think of it this way: If you have a botle of wine and put a short cork in, it stops up the bottle from spilling. A long cork does the same. A skinny cork wouldn't work and let the wine out. It depends more on the compression of the area in my opinion and also what symptoms the patient is experiencing. My herniation was 3-4mm and i was very symptomatic (took a long time to diagnose). I've had 2 decompressions and no success. I'm having a shunt monday that will hopefully help. Hope this helps you. hugs, ------------------------------------------------------------------------ WACMA Site: http://www.pressenter.com/~wacma Your Personal support group member page: http://www.eGroups.com/group/chiari/ **Avoid List Congestion: Unsubscribe from this list: mailto:chiari-unsubscribeegroups Contact list mgmt: mailto:chiari-owneregroups ------------------------------------------------------------------------ eGroups.com Home: /group/chiari/ - Simplifying group communications
Guest guest
My daughter had NO tonsillar herniation and was very symptomatic. She was diagnosed with Chiari I by only 2 NSGs (out of about a dozen). Decompression surgery alleviated most of her symptoms. Your husband is unfortunately in the camp of Chiari patients who will have a hard time finding a neurosurgeon who considers it significant. If your doc says it's nothing, you must go to a neurosurgeon who knows that tonsillar herniation is only one factor in Chiari I cases.
