Guest guest
I know about the cruciferous ones...( broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brusselsprouts)...are there others? My iron levels are okay....don't know about ferritin......I do have a diarrhea problem now....( milk in fact any dairy, chocolate all bother me...) and I do have diverticular disease........but I figure I will mainly juice carrots, apples and fresh greens.... and plan to add beans, nuts and seeds as protein..........I was on a vegetarian diet many years ago ( I did use dairy and eggs then)....and actually felt really good on it......I didn't need to lose weight at the time......I was just doing it to feel better...( that was before I knew I had asthma and hashi)....and it did give me more energy.......but as I veered off in the ditch....and started eating fast foods and junk again.........the weight came on....and I got weaker and weaker......and eventually went on the asthma and Hashi meds........at any rate......I'll do it cautiously....I need to lose about 70 to 80 pounds.......Thanks for the heads up......I'll keep a close watch on how I'm feeling as I go along...in fact...I've started a journal today......so it will help me keep track.... Guest guest
Check this link out http://thyroid.about.com/cs/drugdatabase/f/goitrogen.htm Goitrogenic foods like brussels sprouts, rutabaga, turnips, cauliflower, African cassava, millet, babassu (a palm-tree coconut fruit popular in Brazil and Africa) cabbage, and kale can act like the antithyroid drugs propylthiouracil and methimazole in disabling the thyroid function, so they should not be eaten in large amounts by someone on thyroid hormone replacement who still has a thyroid. SO sez . :-) And let's not forget the ever popular, ever misunderstood soy bean. in sunny LA -----Original Message-----From: JAMY Sent: Friday, February 13, 2004 2:15 PMTo: The_Thyroid_Support_Group Subject: Re: Tests Thanks. Guest guest
I asked my doctor that same question- but she said that my overall 24 hr. cortisol output was within normal ranges and Cushings is usually caused by an adrenal tumor. Due to my Hashi's- she felt it was more thyroid- adrenal related. I'm skeptical because, if my cortisol is above normal for every time period they tested- wouldn't I be producing to much cortisol overall? But maybe I'm just being paranoid- this condition has me obsessing and having lots of panic- so its hard to trust the docs- even though she's been great so far...What usually has taken people years to get relief- I've had tested in just a few months. > > These are MANY of a whole bunch of our symptoms, including me. Guest guest
, It states in the PDR, the physician's drug " bible, " that adrenal function should be evaluated BEFORE prescribing ANY thyroid medication. Too bad they conveniently chose to overlook this important factor in 99.9% of the cases. Oh, but I guess they're doctors and everyone knows that doctors know EVERYTHING! (Oooopps! Guest guest
The point of pre-testing the adrenals before starting thyroid medication is that if the adrenals are fatigued before starting the medication, speeding up metabolism, which the medication will do, the adrenals could have a really hard time keeping up, actually making everything worse. Worst care scenerio -- an adrenal crash/crisis, which could be life threatening. > > > Should everyone with thyroid problems have their adrenals tested? Guest guest
So... this is really serious. Guest guest
I can be, yes.... for most it's a case of the adrenals being fatigued to the point where they don't realize the potential on thyroid meds that they could simply because the weak adrenals wont' allow the body to handle the extra load of getting better on an adequate dose... So very well worth the effort to check out. Topper () On Tue, 17 Feb 2004 06:21:27 -0600 " " writes: > So... this is really serious. Guest guest
Very. You can have symptoms of either that are very similar. Tx RE: Re: Tests > So... this is really serious. Not something that should be overlooked? > >
