Guest guest
Hello everyone - hope you are all doing well today! I know this isn't FMS related, but thought since you all are a wealth of health information, I thought I would see if you knew of this or had experienced this yourself or with a family member. I have friend who is 50, who started having upper abdominal pain, nausea, and dizziness back in mid-december. She went in for several tests to see if it was gall bladder stones. They never found any stones, but her symptoms got worse and worse and her diet became reduced to dry potatoes, homemade applesauce, bananas, and vegetarian soup. graham crackers. She was completely unable to have anything with fat in it without having stomach pains and nausea right after eating. She had her gall bladder out on Jan 30th. They found that the gall bladder was inflamed, with no stones, so they took it out. They had also found some gastritis (inflammation of stomach lining) during her endoscopy. The surgery went fine and her incisions are healing fine. However, she is still limited to the diet I described, and even on this diet, she still gets bouts of stomach pain and nausea for no reason. She does not have the dizziness anymore, but she is absolutely miserable and has been off work for several weeks on and off since this started. They gave her Prilosec, which doesn't work, she takes Tums or Pepto Bismol and has Zofran (anti-nausea) for bad bouts of nausea, especially after eating. She doesnt like to take medications and knows that doing that just masks the real problem. She has also started to have more constipation, some of it started due to the couple of days of vicodin since the surgery, but she has been off of that and is still having it. I have her on psyllium fiber, stomach enzymes, aloe juice, and juicers made from carrots, beets, apples now. It seems there is no end in sight on this. Whenever she tries to introduce something new into her diet, she feels awful again. She is to the point where she is afraid to eat anything, but if she lets her stomach get too empty, she gets nauseated again. We have taken her off of any gluten/wheat products such as crackers, thinking maybe she has a gluten allergy. Do you know anyone that has had this and has resolved it? I have looked online blogs and have seen that a lot of people who have had gall bladder surgeries and they are still having the same, very similar problems months and months later after surgery. I have never had gallbladder or stomach problems, but I have done the Hulda liver cleanses before where you drink the olive oil and grapefruit juice and the next morning you pass a lot of gall stones. I would have my friend try this, but I'm afraid with how sick she is that trying this cleanse might make her very sick and I dont want that after all she has been through. Anyone have any ideas? Guest guest
Definitely all gluten and all dairy ... (My daughter had similar symptoms ... once tested and off these, she's been fine). Psyllium can make matters worse, I've found. She should avoid all processed foods and eating out for a while until she gets used to checking for gluten & dairy in her foods... If she would like, I could send her a guidesheet I put together for people who have asked for it. Guest guest
Hello Colleen I had my gall bladder out at 34 and I did have a golf ball gall stone. The doctor kept it he was so impressed. Anyway I knew to expect issues when eating fat for at least a year but was still having issues years later. I was throwing up it seemed no matter what I ate I could not find a pattern so I had a colonoscopy which they looked for Celics etc and what they did find is I had C diff http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/c-difficile/DS00736 You can get it from having surgery or just being in the hospital or they see it often in senior care homes. I was lucky and the first round of antibiotics worked. But I was still not feeling well and still having bouts of vomiting, I went to motility clinic which they first measure how fast you digest your food by eating radiated eggs and xray every hour which did not show any problems but then they wanted to do another round of tests where the stick a tube in your mouth while you are awake and put liquid food through the tube and I think the tests takes a few hours and the doctor wanted to put me on anti depressive drugs. I was frustrated and decided to go see a homeopathic doctor who worked in a reg doctors office in San Francisco. She thought perhaps I was allergic to eggs etc so she ordered a food sensitivity test which I had to pay for which was 1,000.00 but I was already paying so much for all the other tests. It did show a wheat, yeast, brewers yeast, cumin, kidney beans, green beans. squash, sunflower, pinto beans, cows milk. and many others I keep the card in my wallet. Once I started to eliminate the foods I felt better. I would every month or so try to eat something on the list and then would vomit. So I was good for years. I know can have the kerrygoldirish grass fed butter with no problems at all. I have been on this diet for 4 years. I still stay away from most but have accidentally had a few like pinto beans with no issues. The doctor told me since I would eat the same foods every day it can cause this. It would be worth it for your friend to see a homeopathic doctor and if she has diarrhea to get a colonoscopy or just do a stool test. I think my homeopathic doctor order that for me as well Also Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar helped me so much with my constipation. Have her try that daily. Also being nausea all the time can be a sign of something going on with the brain. Let us know how she is doing I know its scary and frustrating and most reg doctors think its a psychological problem when it is not such Ciao- Ange ________________________________ To: " fibromyalgiacured " <fibromyalgiacured > Sent: Tue, February 14, 2012 8:12:53 AM Subject: Gall Bladder surgery Hello everyone - hope you are all doing well today! Guest guest
Ange Thanks for the information. Wow you were very sick, you poor girl. I'm glad you have figured it out and are feeling better. I have passed this along to my friend. She has not has dairy or wheat products for a couple of weeks now, so hopefully she will start to feel better just avoiding them. If not, then maybe she will do an allergy test. Guest guest
Hello No problem. It is good your friend is not eating diary and wheat. Make sure she is taking supplements. I think the normal allergy test at a reg doctor is different than the food sensitivity test. I did have an allergy test which confirmed I was super allergic to shellfish and through all my recent MRIs with Iodine I am also allergic to Iodine. It does take awhile for the stomach to calm down I hope your friend feels better soon and the Braggs Vinegar should help. My husband tried to make his own vinegar but it was not a success Ciao- Ange ________________________________ To: " fibromyalgiacured " <fibromyalgiacured > Sent: Wed, February 15, 2012 6:26:25 AM Subject: Re: Gall Bladder surgery Ange Thanks for the information.
