Guest guest
I just came from 's IEP. I was not to pleased at first when I received a letter on Monday, the 13th, for an IEP on thursday, the 16th. It was drummed into our heads this year the parents MUST have 10 days notice. I wrote back and told them I could not make it at 1 pm as I was doing an IEP myself, I needed to do Zander's later in an afternoon. Last night she called me at home to set it up for after school today so I took an early out and went. They want to test him for gifted, so a new IEP had to be written. It did not say anywhere on the IEP that he is to be taught signing, so I requested it. They wrote " he will be signed to " . I said thank you, but I want it to specifically to state he will be taught to sign! They then added that. I did learn they now have a full-time aide in the room who signs and will be interpreter qualified within the next month or so. She works with Zander and the other HI kids and they have another teacher who comes in to the room and works with the HI kids for an hour in the room and also pulls them out for 45 minutes a piece to work on individual skills in reading and math. They said he is doing great and is above age level. They are a little concerned with his blends and reading. If you met Zander you would not be able to tell he has almost no hearing in one ear, he lip reads very well and his speech is almost perfect. I have noticed, and so has his speech teacher that he is no longer pronouncing some of sounds and blends correctly that he used to, so they are working on them with him. He is aware he is not as he said to me last night, " listen Mom, I can say 'sh','th' and 'ch', and I can say them right again. " He told me that some of his words were sounding funny so he asked the speech teacher. He is a charactor! Deb Deb Cawley Aislinn papillons cawley@... aislinnpapillons@...
