Guest guest
Bindi, Yes, I am slowly improving, but I suffer setbacks - like when I get my hair highlighted, for a few days my symptoms act up. My joint aches seem to be slowly improving, but they're not completely gone. I'm curious to see how the winter goes, last winter I was in alot of pain with my joints and bone pain. The tinnitis is still here for me, but mine only happens at night when I try to sleep. I was working out at the gym and it seems like when I work out the ear ringing eases up, and then I caught the flu a few weeks ago and the ringing came back (maybe because I haven't worked out in a few weeks). I still have fatigue, but the blurred vision, brain fog and headaches are much better. My fingers and toes aren't numb anymore, and my blood pressure went back to normal within a month of explant (it was always low and became high with implants). My fingers used to look blue or glowing white at times, and that's gone. Sis > > Hey Leyna, > > I am so glad you are feeling so energetic. That is a good > sign! > > > > Did you have a lift? Guest guest
Sis, The chemicals in the hair dye would cause your flare up. I'm dying to highlight my hair again, but am holding off...it always causes me to have a lot more pain too. :(auntsisnj <auntsisnj@...> wrote: Bindi,Yes, I am slowly improving, but I suffer setbacks - like when I get my hair highlighted, for a few days my symptoms act up. Guest guest
Sis and Bindi, Did you gals ever try henna? I know your hair should be 'grown out' ie, virginal, but I hear alot about it being good for sensitive people. I never have, but a close friend did and it came out a beautiful shade. She has severe asthma and is a very natural girl so she can't use chemical color - she also said it grew out nicely, no line of demarkation (sp?) etc. > > > Hey Leyna, > > > I am so glad you are feeling so energetic. Guest guest
, I haven't tried it, although I did look online and found natural hair dyes and asked my friend (who does my hair) if she'd ever heard of them, and she hadn't. My friend had breast cancer, and is a hair dresser and comes in contact with these chemicals every day, so I worry about her. Sis > > > > Hey Leyna, > > > > I am so glad you are feeling so energetic. Guest guest
haha, love it Bindi - great idea, henna tatoos at the same time! I would love to try it but my hair has not been in it's natural state since Family Ties was in the primetime lineup ..ah well, someday! Sis - that is scary about your friend w/ cancer being around those dyes - I always wonder about that too. I temped at a company that made lotions and I can't tell you how many of the 20 year + employees (all ladies) had breast and ovarian cancer. I thought it was more than a coincidence, but no one else thought much of it. Realizing what chemicals were in the air there (offices attached to the factory) I was very glad to not be around it anymore. Wouldn't it be great if she could start her own natural salon ? let us know if you try those dyes. I have seen them, too, I know some of them do not come with a mixing bowl - I bought it and got it back home and had nothing to put the ingredients in. freebindi <bindi@...> wrote: I used henna for years-- it is subtle and works best on brown hair. Guest guest
, Luckily my friend had a lumpectomy and didn't get implants. She told me if she ever got breast cancer again, she'd have the reconstruction, even with the knowledge of what implants did to me. Hopefully she'll never have a recurrence, but if she does I'll try to talk her into the tram-flap instead http://www.breastcancer.org/tram_reconstruction1a.html. Guest guest
Bindi, He told me the same thing....a couple of years to recover. He said he didn't believe in detoxing, but to me, it would make sense that you would recover faster if you did do some sort of detox, although the body detoxes itself naturally through sweat, urine, and feces. I hardly ever sweat myself, and I'm never thirsty so I don't urinate a lot, and I'm normally constipated...so I imagine I'm full of toxins anyway! I'm going back to work tomorrow, so I plan on looking for some good detox products.freebindi <bindi@...> wrote: My doctor says I have FMS, a diagnosis that he gave me out of frustration, I think, because he didn't know what else to do with me. I know the ladies who have recovered here strongly believe in detoxing, and I have done some of that. I have always had a clean diet. I just got an email from Melmed, after I had emailed him to ask how long recovery usually takes. This is what he said: Dear Melinda, As we don't know for sure how the toxicity works, recovery varies. I had a lady in last week whose implants I removed in 1996. She said it took a "couple of years" to feel great again. Having removed the stimulus, the body has to recover. In your case it is very slow. Hopefully this will turn around soon Dr. Melmed I have been thinking about trying guaifenesin, just to see if it would help. I am at my wit's end-- I need to go back to work, finish my book (my agent is losing his patience-- it's been two years since my promised manuscript delivery date), I'm driving my partner crazy, blah blah blah. I don't know what got me started with all this! I hope I don't discourage the newbies. I think I am an an unusual case-- I think most people don't get as sick as I did, and get better faster. Guest guest
Hi, ladies, He is right, the body does detox itself but some of our bodies don't do an effective job and need help. I understand not being thirsty, I used to be the same way but you really do need to force yourself to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day, thirsty or not. Your body really needs the fluids. The detox products will not be effective without an adequate intake of water. If you start drinking, in time your body will realize when you need fluids and you will feel thirsty. Guest guest
Kenda, Thanks-yeah, you're right-I need to force myself to drink more! It's easier at work, since I'm talking a lot then! I read that as far as the amount of water needed....the foods you eat also count as water intake! Don't know if I believe this or not, but I guess it would make sense if you added a cup of water to a can of soup and then ate it all, that that would count as one cup of water already drank. lolKenda Skaggs <skaggs@...> wrote: Hi, ladies,He is right, the body does detox itself but some of our bodies don't do aneffective job and need help.I understand not being thirsty, I used to be the same way but you really doneed to force yourself to drink at least 8 glasses of water each day, thirsty or not. Guest guest
Yes, I have read that water in foods count toward your daily intake and I'm sure it counts, but not enough. You really want to drink more than what is recommended because you are trying to flush toxins. The last thing you want to do is have toxins continually recirculating in your body. CAN OF SOUP?? Be sure you read the label. Most canned soups have way too much sodium. Kenda > Kenda, > Thanks-yeah, you're right-I need to force myself to drink more! Guest guest
Leyna, et al, For *many* of those of us with AI diseases, hair dye is a real flare producer!! Not saying you have the illnesses, but beware! There must be some natural ways to color hair, etc. I've never colored my hair, am 65, same brown hair, with just a very little bit of a gray streak in the front on one side. *Now* I'm wanted to experiment a little, and....Darn!! Well, people tell me I look 50, so I guess I should be happy with what I've got! ;-)
Guest guest
Diane, I've always dyed my hair...I can never be satisified! If I'm bleach blonde, a few months later, I want to go dark! Or vice versa! I'm always changing my hair color, but have not done anything to it in a couple of months, so I have a couple of inches of my natural color growing in....dark blonde/light brown. I think I'll just leave it alone for awhile, and then after the roots grow in, I'll put some thick bleach streaks in the front.....but then again, I may change my mind tomorrow! haha Crocker <dwcrn@...> wrote: Leyna, et al,For *many* of those of us with AI diseases, hair dye is a real flare producer!! Guest guest
Yes, and our bodies also process toxins through the liver and kidneys... I sometimes wonder if that is why my liver enzymes were high. I have no idea. They are not high now, though. I think I was one of the lucky ones. Bindi, like you, I was pretty sick. I was diagnosed with FMS, but my docs had not even told me until I saw the records! I guess they figured I had enough to deal with with the diagnoses of lupus, mutliple sclerosis and thyroid disease. Unlike some, my tests were not normal - it seemed every test I took came back abnormal. I didn't want to see any doctors anymore. I followed Dr. Kolb's protocol for awhile, the best that I could and as I could afford. That wasn't for very long then. I did learn the value of taking probiotics, when I ended up in the hospital with c-difficile after explant. I don't know if they would have helped, but I suspect they would have. I had had antibiotics (Cipro) and my immune system was compromised. It took well over a year before I started seeing improvements. But then the gains were fast. My blood tests are now normal! I am feeling better, although I still do take plaquenil for lupus (although not as much), and I take Cymbalta still, and of course, Armour thyroid medication. I quit taking Avonex (interferon) for MS, because it gave me flu-like symptoms and worsened my depression. I don't know why it takes longer for some than others. I do know that I was very very sick. I couldn't even walk across my living room at one point. That memory is seared into my consciousness - I stopped halfway across because my foot gave out, my legs felt like lead weights, and the pain was uncontrollable. I just collapsed on the floor and started sobbing. Between the vertigo, joint and muscle pain, numbness, fatigue and depression - I was a mess. Somehow I got through all that. I don't know how, but I think it had a lot to do with the loving support I received from my husband and from all the women in the support groups. I have talked to a woman who had her implants removed 12 years ago, and she cautioned me from getting " too " optimistic - eg she suggested that I could have a 'flare' again, and I shouldn't just quit going to doctors but instead I should continue to have periodic check ups and blood tests. That may be true, but I am still thrilled at my progress. She also pointed out that it took nearly a decade before she was back to her 'old' self again. I think it does depend on how long we have the implants, whether they were ruptured or not, how our own bodies reacted to it... there are so many factors involved. It's really important to not give up hope. Hope is a powerful 'factor' itself. We need to do whatever is necessary to keep that hope alive. And that is my 2 cents. PS. My next goal is to get rid of dentists. I mean get rid of my need for them. ;-) I wonder if that will ever happen? > > My doctor says I have FMS, a diagnosis that he gave me out of > > frustration, I think, because he didn't know what else to do with me. Guest guest
Yes, that is the nature of AI ... (not to be confused with artificial intelligence - oops that is the plastic surgeons and manufacutrers that promote the implants lol) ok I am punchy. I have lupus too, as you know, DIana, as well as multiple sclerosis. Yet my health has improved so much. I hope those symptoms and haywire blood tests don't come back. My blood tests were consistently abnormal for several years before explant. Since explant, all my blood tests have been normal. (My first blood test after explant was about 15 months post surgery). Is that coincidence? Or just the waxing and waning of AI ? I don't think so. > > > Things seem to get stirred up whenever I try to do more than just the > > minimal amount of activity. > > Sis, and others, > This is the hallmark of the 'disease.' Guest guest
Molly, Your story always give me hope, especially since you, too, were as sick as I was. I appreciate the time you take to tell all the details. And I am really glad you are feeling better. A good star to point towards for the rest of us. Guest guest
Molly, I just am so encouraged by your progress. It is astounding, and incredibly significant for ALL women affected by breast implants, as proof that the implants were indeed affecting your body in a negative way, and that recovery is possible. I am so happy for you! I have lupus too, as you know, DIana, as well as multiple sclerosis. Yet my health has improved so much. I hope those symptoms and haywire blood tests don't come back.My blood tests were consistently abnormal for several years before explant.Since explant, all my blood tests have been normal. (My first blood test after explant was about 15 months post surgery). Is that coincidence? Or just the waxing and waning of AI ? I don't think so.>> > Things seem to get stirred up whenever I try to do more than just the > > minimal amount of activity.> > Sis, and others,> This is the hallmark of the 'disease.'
