Guest guest
We have a policy that allows it but in the two years that I have been supervisor no one has been forced (ordered) in. As we are down two positions out of eight that is a credit to the people I work with. The fact that I cover more then my share of the overtime makes it easy for the rest to say yes when I ask. I am hoping to hire the two that are almost through the process but we shall see. I am hoping that there is light at the end of the tunnel as I average 12 hours of OT a week (I have to refigure that as the last three weeks and this one were in the 22-24 hour range). We work 5 eight's so it is not hard to hold someone over and bring in someone early. As I cover the day shift that is usually me. As I live 3 minutes from work (a curse some times) I ask that if the mid shift calls in and it has to be covered be hold over and call back, don't call me at eleven (being and old fart of 45 I am usually in bed at 2100) to tell me I have 3 hours to sleep, just call me at 0300 and I will be there coffee in hand at 0400. I like to think that I am a low stress low maintenance type of person but a recent check of my blood pressure shows that I may need to head to the northern woods of Vermont (move over Diane) shows that I need to find a hobby that relieves some of the stress and some shorter working hours.
