I usually get mine at Wild Oats....if I can't get it there, they have it at Walgreen's. Or you can order it online. I normally take 50mg twice a day...but since my explant, I've been in a LOT of pain with my Fibro...so I increased my HTP to 100mg three times a day-and I did not have to take a pain pill today! Yahhh! I love the stuff!freebindi <bindi@...> wrote: 5-HTP 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) is a compound produced by the body from tryptophan. It is naturally found in many foods and most commonly extracted from the seeds of the Griffonia plant. In Europe, 5-HTP has been used for decades as an approved treatment for depression, sleep problems, weight loss, and other medical complaints. It is now starting to be used in the USA. Clinical trials show that 5-HTP is a safe, natural way to boost the brain serotonin levels. Use of 5-HTP has been shown to produce results equal to or better than those of standard synthetic drugs used in the problems arising from serotonin deficiency syndrome. 5- HTP provides the quickest, most effective, and most consistent overall results in treating insomnia. It is an effective alternative for dealing with sleep problems in a safe and natural way compared to sleep medicines. 5-HTP improves the quality of sleep. More

importantly, clinical studies show that 5- HTP is also useful in the treatment of sleep disorders other than insomnia. 5-HTP increases REM sleep significantly (typically by about 25 percent) while simultaneously increasing deep sleep stages 3 and 4 without increasing total sleep time. 5- HTP accomplishes this by shortening the amount of time you spend in sleep stages 1 and 2, which in certain ways are the least important stages of the cycle. The higher the dose, the more time spent in REM. By shifting the balance of the sleep cycle, 5-HTP makes sleep more restful and rejuvenating. Instead of waking feeling tired, worn out, and "hungover," people taking 5- HTP feel vibrant, well rested, and ready to take on the challenges of the day. When we sleep more deeply and dream more efficiently, we wake in the morning with our physical and psychological batteries fully charged. The impact of 5-HTP on sleep stages is dose-related; taking higher

doses produces a somewhat greater impact. In most cases, the lower dosage is adequate. Higher doses may lead to a greater number of disturbing dreams and nightmares due to abnormally prolonged REM sleep. It can also lead to mild nausea. Re: Tried Guaifenesin 5HTP what is it ? Where do you buy ?

I would HIGHLY recommend purchasing pharmaceutical grade supplements, rather

than supplements purchased at Wild Oats or Walgreens. Pharmaceutical grade

supplements are guaranteed to have what's on the label in the bottle.

Kenda, Yes, that would be nice if I could afford that. But, like I mentioned before, I make $7.65 an hour, and my husband makes $11.00 an hour. We have almost $2,000 worth of bills a month....so, as you can see, I really can't afford the cheap vitamins I buy as it is. Not everyone can afford "pharmaceutical grade" supplements, and I wouldn't begin to know where to get them anyway.Kenda Skaggs <skaggs@...> wrote: I would HIGHLY recommend purchasing pharmaceutical grade supplements,

You can buy many pharmaceutical grade supplements online. I buy many of

mine from myhealthfirst.com, the rest from my ND. As I mentioned

previously, you may not be getting what you think you're getting by

purchasing cheap supplements. It might be cost effective to purchase

quality supplements because you might be able to take less. Shipping is

free with myhealthfirst.com if you spend over $100. I order every few

months so I can get free shipping.

Consumer's Report did a check on a number of

supplements and found the majority pure and to have the stated ingredients.

Yes, he does, but he thinks we should all know the truth, and he is

not out to make a killing on supplements. A lot of $$ goes into the

pockets of some ND's because they tell people that their supplements

are the best. He says there are really some good brands out in

health food stores.

Yes, they did, and I was quite encouraged by their reporting. I don't

like paying a 'middle-man' to get quality nutritionals and don't think I

have to. I do a little research myself on different companies, read

very carefully the contents of the product to make sure there's not

something in it that I don't want to take, and try and see how I feel

taking it.

The bottom line is doing what is working for you and that your doctor

supports your decision. My doctor has a different opinion, which I respect

and trust. He doesn't make a dime on supplements I buy that don't come from

him, which is most of them. He simply directs me to the best supplements,

in his opinion. I don't believe that I am carried away, I trust my doctor

who has never steered me wrong, and cured me of several " diseases " . What he

prescribes works for me and has for others here.

I work at Wild Oats Market, and they are VERY careful about their products....in fact, they research their products so carefully, that if they find out that if a product they have been carrying for years (and sell a lot of!) has changed their ingredients, and no longer meets our standards, they take it off the shelf immedietly. For instance, there was an issue with one of "Jarrow" products-I can't remember which one though. We took it off our shelves that day. I get a good discount for working there of course, and so naturally, since it's so convienient for me, I buy my supplements there first, but I do occasionally shop other places, both on and offline. I tried to look at that Health First website that Kenda mentioned, and could not get to it at all, but I did come across this site from the FDA that was sorta interesting..... http://www.casewatch.org/fdawarning/prod/2004/healthfirst.shtmlLynda <coss@...> wrote: With all due respect, my ND has told me that many brands in health food stores are as good as the ones he sells.LyndaAt 02:13 PM 10/4/2006, you wrote:>With all due respect, my ND disagrees and considers the quality inferior in>MOST grocery store/health food store brands.>>Kenda>> >
