Joanne -

My thought is your issue is with carbs, and that may well relate to gut

health given the progression of your increasing tolerance to certain dairy.

As in your gut is healing, but not 100 percent healthy. Key question for me

would be - can you tolerate aspirin? Or does it cause the symptoms described

here? http://www.webmd.com/allergies/guide/salicylate-allergy

About Salicylates & guaifenesin - I was on the G. therapy for seven months

some ten years ago. I followed the strict protocol about salicylates while I

was on it. It was difficult to tell whether it actually helped the fibro as

the side effects for me were miserable and constant. What it did do was

thoroughly clear my sinuses, and that eliminated a whole class of headaches

I'd suffered for years. I periodically do about a week-long course of the

therapy every couple years or so, whenever I'm in need of the sinus

treatment. This has allowed me to deal with sinus infections in the early

stages and avoid antibiotics and the accompanying side effects. I'm not

against antibiotics - they're life-saving tools but not my chosen first line

of defense.

The issue with salicylates & guaifenesin, as I understand it, is that both

substances compete for use of the same receptors in the body, and when both

are in the body, the guaifenesin can't work as well because the receptors

are already busy processing salicylates. This is how my dr. explained to

me, or at least how I remember it.
