(lit --- end of quote --- Not a dumb question! I wonder the same thing all the time. Ezekiel seems to be understanding a lot more since he got his aids, but still his speech is really unclear. Partly I think because he is lazy and doesn't need to speak, he gets waited on hand and foot. Sigh. But when he does say words most people wouldn't understand them unless they are around him a lot. But he definately knows what they mean! Kirsten

Do I only count those that are more or less " precise " ??? I would count what you want to count. Is Crystal knowing what she is saying? Hayley can say thumb, sometimes and sometimes she cant get the words formed right (but she gives it a hell of a try)...I'd count it. I dont know what the expersts would say but I would say you are the expert on your own daugther. Remember that many deaf children do not develop speech as well as hearing children, even children whose losses are not as severe as ours. (which is why we went for communication vs. speech...it made sense at the time, Hayley has come a tremendous long way, and now she is beginning to incorporate and enjoy speech)>
