Guest guest
Hi, I've not yet had Chiari surgery, but I've had other surgeries in years past--the latest with staples (back in the 1960's it was regular stiches). The staples are SO MUCH better. Another member said her grandfathers 'stiches' were wide as her finger -- Ibelieve it. Back in the old days before staples, surgery scars looked so gross. Now, with the new staples, you can actually have a 'clean' looking, tiny thin line instead. And in places where it will be visible for the rest of ones life, that's everything. Besides after surgery, you don't have to " go have the stiches removed " . As I understood with my last surgery in mid 1980's, the staples I had " disentegrated " and were absorbed. So there was nothing to see - and they just disappeared. Lots better than the old 'thread and needle' routine of years gone by. Now, can barely see scar -- one has to actually get up close to search for it, or won't even see it. I was closed with Staples my step father had neck surgery years ago and they used stitches and his scar was as wide as my finger. The staples however gross they are.... My four year old son referred to me as Zipper head. They don't allow the skin to stretch likestrips or stitches. I got that lil piece of info from a plastic surgeon friend of mine. Also after surgery I had a problem where my head swelled horrible and I could not drink or swallow. And the staples were able to keep the incision from stretching as well. I have to admit I was more concerned with the after affects of the surgery to the outside of my head then the inside. That unfornunate companion ego. Shane steri-strips or staples? I am curious and would like to know which doctor closes w/steri-strips or staples? Wondered if I could get a response from those that have had surgeries on the type of closing done by which surgeon and was it harder to lay on the back of the head w/staples? Kari's Doctor: Dr. Rosner - closed w/stitches inside and only w/steri-strips/outside Thanks for your help Dori ------------------------------------------------------------------------ WACMA Site: http://www.pressenter.com/~wacma Your Personal support group member page: http://www.eGroups.com/group/chiari/ **Avoid List Congestion: Unsubscribe from this list: mailto:chiari-unsubscribeegroups Contact list mgmt: mailto:chiari-owneregroups ------------------------------------------------------------------------ eGroups.com Home: /group/chiari/ - Simplifying group communications WACMA Site: http://www.pressenter.com/~wacma Your Personal support group member page: http://www.eGroups.com/group/chiari/ **Avoid List Congestion: Unsubscribe from this list: mailto:chiari-unsubscribeegroups Contact list mgmt: mailto:chiari-owneregroups eGroups.com Home: /group/chiari www. <> - Simplifying group communications
