Guest guest
Ellen, From my experience at the pain clinic I go to, you need to plan on being examined and visiting with the doctor for 45 minutes to an hour. My pain specialist spent 30 minutes alone giving my a very intensive exam. He checked areas of my body that I never would have thought would have been tied into my disease. He explained later that some of the exam allowed him to rule out many other things that could have caused my symptoms. Once he finished the entire exam, he spoke to me and my husband about what was happening to me and what he was going to do first to help me aand what else may be done to control my pain. He listened to me in depth about my pain and anything that affected my pain. He also asked questions that were to find things that increased my pain or decreased my pain. I hope the pain clinic is a blessing to you. Lori Ellen asked: > My Dr. referred me to a pain clinic, what can I expect from > them?
Guest guest
> Anyway my Dr. sent me to a pain clinic, and it was a joke, all they > done was an ultrasound and a tens unit with heat. I have spinal stenosis, fibro and arthritis and I am in > constant pain, my whole body hurts, I don't know what to do any more. > Any input would sure be helpful. > > Ellen, Go to Google and type in " Intractable Pain Certification Forms-The link is http://www.paincare.org/pain_management/advocacy/forms_download.html I don't know how to do tiny url so you have to use this. Fill out those forms as it shows what works and does not work for you. " . Start keeping a pain dairy, it is mandatory. This will give your doctor a written record that he cannot dispute. Write down what you want to happen. There are treatment protocols that are multi models and what happened to you is common. If a patient doesn't state what they want or think they want, they will start you with the lowest dose of med, and most conservative things working their way up. I would tell your doctor you want opoid therapy, get you pain level in line, then plan the other stuff. You need to be out of pain before they do any invasive injections, poking, probing and bothering you. This way he has an idea of where you are out. You can get a pain diary by type in in pain diary or contact me and I will sent you the sample I use and have. Good Luck, Been There Done That. Been told to go home and take a warm bath before, I tell my doctors now, don't get close to me I know the right body parts to kick if you don't help me out.
