Guest guest
Joanne, Okay, glass it it is! Thanks! Before GAPS I was definitely taking at least about 5 T a day - put it on my yams, on my crackers, or just a teaspoon on its own... The first months on GAPS it was okay; seems now things that were okay before are suddenly giving me trouble, which so many people are reporting on the GAPS forum and something McBride addresses in her book and on her FAQ's on her site.. Will re-introduce again soon. I'm thinking if I could but tolerate the supplements rec by Bee and McBride I'd probably be healing faster... When you say that you are " in ketosis " and the pain is stable and doesn't dial up, I " get " this state... I want to be there all the time too, but for me it only has persisted 4 days in a row over 3 months. My problem is I've tried to introduce things too close together. New strategy is to wait 5-7 days before introducing a new thing, and just on the tip of a toothpick. Also, I need to fast after a few days of eating. When the pain dials up what do you take for this? McBride rec. aspirin. I haven't taken it yet - mostly I use magic brew (a sea salt salt & baking soda solution) as a remedy, magnesium, coffee enemas, do EFT exercises & massage the gate points... if it's really rough, 10-20 minutes on oxygen helps a lot btw. Your symptoms sound rough... mine are rough too, but not the same. I don't get fatigue or mental confusion. Just pain in the lower body from the tips of my toes to a bit above my waist. When my pain began I was given tons of EACH of the drugs this guy the video mentions - didn't work, couldn't tolerate. I'm done with these crazy people who push these drugs one on top of the other and make you feel worse than before and a zombie too! The GABA info you mention is something I discussed with my dr recently... she said these neurotransmitters run the body.. I don't quite understand all this so I look forward to hearing more when your time permits. Keeping hope alive! Guest guest
Joanne, Okay, I'm starting to get this!!! Today I made some broth with squash (which bothered me the other day - tongue burning, shaking, hyper and greater pain, and I had it with A LOT of meat and A LOT of butternut squash and not much fat). Today I made a zuke type squash and same thing, though I only had a few tablespoons of the yummy sweet liquid! The exact same reactions happened with the tongue but I didn't " go for it " out of starvation - I stopped and the reactions were there a bit and normally I would just fast until tomorrow because eating anything else this day would make the pain worse. But I tried an experiment: I calculated for the first time as I continue to study Bee's site the appropriate grams for my fats, protein, and carbs.... OH, that's revelatory but more, get this: I don't have a scale, but I made a very small cup of broth trying to appropriate these percentages. LOTS of chicken fat in my broth (I'm guessing the broth itself is super high in protein even without the meat, so I skipped the meat), and just a teaspoon of some cauliflower (where I might the other day use a half head of cauliflower) - it was steamed yesterday. Delicious! As I ate, my pain went WAY DOWN immediately and I felt a flush of feeling GOOD. So is this the kenogenic state you're talking about???? Are all vegetables considered carbs? Is the califlower a carb? Obviously I'm staying away from the squash!!! My intuition about getting on some supplements was right on... I am terribly malnurished from these past months and frightfully thin and reactive. Will I be LESS reactive if I'm eating with these percentages? I'm beginning to see and feel the distinctions between GAPS and Bee's approach. Before I did GAPS and was a bit better, I was happiest with just a plate of bacon for breakfast, friends called me the butter queen, loved bbq t-bone steak best, and I could drink whipped creme happily. I was never a bread fan, but I definitely lived off sugars (even though not processed - dates, raisins, dried Turkish apricots that I baked in banana cookies). I was even taken by a friend to a nearby Italian Restaurant once a week where the food stimulated my appetite and at times I ate heartily! I actually could eat a few things - marinated chicken in fatty sauce my favorite! A salad drenched in mayo & eggs etc, a pasta dish heavy with creme and bacon, and fried halibut cheeks.. of course I I was dipping the sourdough breads in olive oil and finished it all with sinful desserts and finally after some months of this I crashed and couldn't eat any of this or anything... I felt best not eating at all... so it wasn't that many months ago that I could actually eat a variety, so this should be hopeful right?? So, is this NOT a leaky porous gut problem??? Thanks for your continued generosity and patience with me!! Guest guest
Joanne, Thank you again! I now have a scale. Okay, a 4 oz stick of butter is approximately 110 grams. I need 135 grams of fat daily from my calculation, so that gives a good visual for the amount to shoot for using a mix of various types of fats - I think this is what you're saying, right?? In the old days eating daily I could drink some whipping creme no problem and get to that amount easily, but now I'm certainly not making that much chicken fat each day to get to that level. I'll start to re-introduce coconut oil tomorrow!!! In terms of protein, protein would be the muscle meat right? Does the weight of the broth count too? Or is the broth something else altogether and not figured in? I need 53 g. of protein each day. Not much really. I don't know what a pack of meat is... like luncheon meat? The protein is just the muscle meat that I boil, right? How so you prepare your meat? You say you made your meat in a crock pot, so you boil all your meats always (goose, etc)? Do you roast them ever or broil a piece of fish or meat for example? Tonight I took some boiled chicken and put it in a bowl with lots of chicken fat on it and put it in the oven on 250 for about 10 minutes to warm - it made it kind of roasted. The meat soaked up the fat so it was dry still so I just kept adding more and more fat until it was super moist with the fat and it tasted good and made me feel good too! Used lots of Himalian salt too and drank a little of magic brew with this. One thing I keep wondering is about the skin on the chicken - I like to eat this, but is that recommended and considered fat after it is cooked too? I asked that on the GAPS forum but no one really knew... And I used carbs in my bowl of meat & fat (a little overcooked califlower) as a garnish just like you! Carbs I'm assuming are the veggies, right? Once I ate this (with about 350 m of magnesium) I was so relaxed that I fell into bed and took a nice short nap, which I rarely do. I can see why it is important to take the supplements WITH food, as it can mitigate any potential reactions and make you feel better - if I hadn't taken the magnesium I probably would have been in big pain. So you are putting your supplements in the food, or taking them before or after the food? I'm making a list of the supplements Bee recommends. Now I have to figure out brands to make an order... I will try again many of these in the forms she recommends... So many questions... sorry. Thanks for your support... I'm glad you think I may make a faster recovery or reduction in pain that I ever expected. Bee says to expect to stay on this - one month for every year sick, which really has been since birth, so 5 years for me looks like!
