Guest guest
Hello Rose, Yes, recurrent strep throat infections can be harmful in his situation. In fact, there is a related condition that children sometimes get that's called post-streptococcal (sp) glomerulonephritis. Was he diagnosed via biopsy? I would definately recommend that you discuss this with his nephrologist. Marty Iga and Strep Throat My 4 year old son has iga, he keeps coming up with strep thoat isnt this a harsh bacteria and damaging to the kidneys? He keeps getting put on antibiotics and it goes away, a few months later he comes up w/ it again. Can this be very harmful in his situation? Guest guest
At one time, a strep throat was thought to be a cause of IgAN. Now, we know that post-strep glomerulonephritis is different than IgA glomerulonephritis. However, it's still possible to have acute gn while already having IgAN. So, I can see the importance of quickly treating a suspected strep throat infection with antibiotics. Guest guest
Pierre, I completely agree. Alarm bells go off for me whenever I feel the slightest sorethroat come on and I almost always end up having to take antibiotics to prevent it from getting worse, and triggering off a relpase. I do worry about developing resistance to antibiotics though, but there's nothing I can do about that except right now I'm staying clear of Penicillin so I will have that option to use if the rest don't work anymore.
