I got the results of my bone density scan today. I have osteoporosis.

That didn't surprise me, because I'm 55, tall, thin, white, and have

been on an asthma corticoid for 25 years. Fortunately, the osteoporosis

isn't very bad yet. I may be able to either halt it in it's tracks or

seriously slow it down. I don't want to take anything like Fosomax, if

I can avoid it completely. The lawsuits pending against that type of

drug, speak for the horrible side effects.

The doctor upped my vitamin D3 from 1600 IU to 2000 IU. I'm already on

the correct fairly high dosing of calcium. She recommended a couple of

new weight bearing exercises to add to my regime, that aren't too hard

to do. She also said to keep taking the Premarin, which I've been

taking for severe hot flashes. She also recommended that I keep gagging

down my fresh ground flax seed each day. I eat very well, so she didn't

have to give me any lectures about my diet.

It's nice to have a doctor that talks vitamins first, exercise second,

and medication third. :-)

On the down side, the radiologist who read my scan, had to stop

analysing when she got to L-4. I'm glad the pictures were included with

the report I received, because seeing is believing. My vertebrae from

L-4 to the tip of my tailbone, are 'way bigger and thicker than L-3.

They're so misshapen from arthritis, that the radiologist couldn't

figure out anything about them. She put on the report that it was

impossible to assess them for osteoporosis damage. It's no wonder I can

see them easily through my skin! It's also no wonder that my back not

only hurts, but snaps and creaks too. :-)

Oh I hope that you get a better report next time after you have upped

your doses. You have reminded me I HAVE to take my vitamins, calcium,

vitamin D, fatty acids, and the heart aspirin.

I forget these things and only harm myself. I admire you for you

adherance and you have shamed me to go take my vitamins.

Thanks for being here and the time you spend providing advice and

encouragement. I think about you often and was having a conversation

with my husband repeating something you and others wrote.

He asked, " When do these people come over? " He was surprised the

people were my chat room. He also said it sound as they are close

friends you talk about. I assured him that this groups does have good

friends. Thank You Lyndi for

being you ! Bennie
