Aspartame is one factor that brings on episodes of Pseudotumor Cerebri for me. (For those who don't know what that is, it's a rare neurological disease that affects about 12,000 people in the US.) It's very hard to find things to drink that don't have it, so I stick with water.

I used to drink 1 (measured) cup of Pepsi in the mornings to help raise my blood sugar when it feels low, and 1 with dinner. To go off of it when I cut ALL sugar out, I used DIET Pepsi... I knew this, but had FORGOTTEN that I'm not supposed to have anything with aspartame ---- and didn't really put 2 and 2 together about all the diet drinks having it anyway, because it had been so long (YEARS and YEARS) since I'd had any diet drinks... then I remembered why. It only took 2 weeks of drinking drinks with aspartame to worsen my PTC. A few things I was drinking were: Diet Pepsi, Crystal Light, and Sugar Free Kool Aid. They ALL have aspartame. There are a few diet colas without aspartame -Diet Coke, and maybe others in the Coke line, but everything else has it. (Diet A and W, Diet Pepsi, Diet Dr. Pepper, I think Coke Zero and Sprite Zero, etc... if it's not sweetened with "Splenda," more than likely something that is sweetened has aspartame.)

On the bright side, having to take Diamox helped get away from soda completely, because you can't drink anything carbonated with it. It also makes many sweets taste off (especially chocolate), but I don't have a sweet or chocolate issue...it was just a love affair with Pepsi. :(

I usually take Diamox about 6 months out of the year. It's supposed to be taken every day for maintenance, but I swear it kills me. It's miserable to take, so I only take it when brain pressure is elevated.

Anyway, just sharing... this is a scary substance, and a lot of people not only consume it, but also give it to their kids!

Yes, Aspartame is awful! I know some people on Weight Watchers who

love it, and I gave them info on the hazards of it. One lady

countered 'but weight watchers says it's ok'. Of course they do,

it's an ingredient in some of their products. It is just another

saccharine in my opionion. One should strive to get off sugar

completely. Stevia is a great herb and very sweet - you can

purchase it in little packets in health food stores - it's basically

a powder. Once you are consuming more whole, fresh foods, your

taste buds will be retrained and you will loose the cravings for

such sweet items. There are alot of articles on aspartame on

www.mercola.com, if you are interested. Brigite, I am glad you

figured out what was harming you!

Splenda is even worse. Splenda is in almost everything now. I

researched it and a subsidiary of and started

Splenda. They take sucralose...force it thru all these chemical

reactions to force the bonding of three chlorine moluecules onto the

sucralose structure. We eat chlorine when we eat Splenda.

I talked with a another lady who was having a rash. Told her about

Splenda. Her husband is a doctor. She took her drink with Splenda

into her the office of her dermatologist. Drank it. They watched

her skin form red bumps from it. They are spreading the word about

splenda thru the medical community.

The manufacturers of aspartame and breast implants have used the same

PR Teams (junkscience.com / ACSH.org / quackwatch.com etc.) to

influence the 'science' and bash the activists!

BTW ...Searle invented it ( Rumsfeld's former company) and sold

it to Monsanto. It has quite a history.

Dr. Betty i has done a great job with getting this information

out to the public ... and has taken enormous 'flak' for it too.

One taste and I break out in hives.

Diamox does, but I'm USUALLY off it for long enough durations to get it out of my system. Good thinking, though -as always!

Mine went away for about a month. Then I started drinking diet coke

with splenda, had an allergic reaction to the bandages I was using

and was taking two antibiotics (which I did not need) or probably a

million other things that I can think of that triggered it again.

It is going away again...and I hope it stays away.

If it helps, this rash looked way different than the one I had prior

to explant.

I think I have become so sensitive that I can not rule out the

supplements I was taking. So for now, I am off everything.

I hope yours goes away. It very well could be the Lupus. I have

heard of people diagnosed with Lupus and after explant....their ANA

levels return to normal. I hope this is the case with you.

IMHO, it's nasty stuff! . . . I've sworn off all "things" that pretend to be foods, but contain no nutrition . . . the contain only taste and/or calories. . . . working on hubby to do the same . . . You should see his expression after reading the ingredients for cheese dip, and for liquid Creamora, when I asked him which of the ingredients he was really hungry for! Some artificial sweetners actually make one want more to eat . . . Rogene

You definitely want to stay away from artificial sweeteners as most of them are neurotoxins and that's what we're all trying to detox from our bodies. What really bothers me, actually infuriates me, is that dentists have

been pushing sugar-free gum for children for a long time. Now

it's....Oops...it causes cancer. I'm very motivated at this point, in

a lot of areas. Educating the public is of foremost importance, as

well as inspiring them to care...so many people feel that they don't

have a voice anymore. I understand why, but we cannot give up.

Keep on keeping on with the good fight,

Splendra is horrible! I used to drink a lot of

coffee, and I used Aspartame (Equal and sweet n low)

I wanted to quit, so I started using Splendra. I

became severely depressed and could not stop crying

all the time. This went on for the two weeks I tried

it. An online friend told me that Splendra caused

these problems, so I Googled it and read about some

football player who started using it and the exact

same thing happened-depression and crying spells. I

immedietely stopped and I was no longer depressed!

What is weird is that Stevia does the exact same thing

to me, only worse-I have panic attacks and crying

spells on that too. It's some Multiple Chemical

Sensitivity I think.....

Once you get used to going without sweets, they will taste sickeningly sweet to you . . . It's those little yeasties telling you to eat sugar that makes sweets taste so good! Rubin says that a little honey every day is OK . .. Sunny recommends real Maple syrup. . . . Just don't overdo either one. One tablespoon a day is plenty. It just kills me the way the doctors offices leave a bowl of candies on the counter! . . . Like "Come here little kiddy - Let me make a patient of you." Rogene, so true about the little " yeastie beasties " calling you to

eat sugar! I got some beets from my Mom's garden when we visited

Edmonton last Tuesday. I was cutting them up the other night, at my

son's house, and all of a sudden I had 4 little voices asking me to

taste the raw beets. Well, you've never seen 4 kids (who do like

candy) make a fuss over these sweet treats! Then I partially cooked

them to freeze, and they wanted to taste them again. Beets -- who

knew?? When I have a sweet craving, I just nibble on some raw beets

now. I'm excited about trying new vegetables I haven't tried yet.

The Chinese veggies fascinate me!

Love & Healthy Eating to all,

Sunny :)

p.s. something I just read: enzymes are depleted by cooking/over-

cooking. Raw foods provide live enzymes that are necessary for the

villi in the intestinal tract to function properly and provide

nutrients to our organs! was given a book from the " Above

Rubies " Camp this weekend called " Rejuvenate your Life " and provides

yummy recipes for mayonnaise made with almonds, etc. I'm going to

try some. I would like to buy a dehydrater as well. I love

dehydrated berries. In the winter, it would be great to eat some

saskatoons! Anyway, this p.s. is turning into an epistle! Bye for

Beets are said to be outstanding for detoxing . . . so much that, if one is very toxic, they should only eat a small quantity of raw beets to begin with . . . I've never tried eating them raw . . . but I will today! . . . The grocery store has had some beautiful beets lately . . . And . . .the greens are outstanding! . . . Just treat them as you would spinach . . . BTW, instead of boiling veggies, try steaming them. . . The flavor is ever so much better, and the nutrients stay in the food, rather than leach out into the water. I even steam potatoes for "baked" potatoes. Rogene

Until I can stick a fork in them . . . Time depends on the size. .. If they're very large, I'll cut them in half. Hey, Rogene,

The enzymes only stay in vegetables if you lightly steam them. If you steam

them too long, the steam will kill the enzymes. I steam all of my veggies

and potatoes too.
