D., claiming negligence related to breast augmentation surgery. The medical negligence lawsuit stems from the surgery performed by Alderson on on on July 30, 2004, at North Hills Surgery Center in Fayetteville. Alderson is employed by and practices his profession through the Plastic Surgery Clinic of Northwest Arkansas in , and the suit also relates to postoperative care provided. The suit claims that on had various complaints and symptoms, including excessive pain and tenderness involving the right breast. On Sept. 8, 2004, according to the

suit, Alderson performed a procedure at the clinic to remove adjustment ports from saline implants. While removing the port on the right implant, he nicked the tubing, which allowed fluid into the breast cavity, where the implant was positioned, the suit alleges. on continued to have post-operative problems, including pain and tenderness, according to the suit. Last June 23, on underwent bilateral removal of the implants by Dr. Atwood, according to the suit. The suit alleges that on has incurred medical expenses in the past, and has experienced and will continue to experience pain, suffering and mental anguish. It claims that Alderson was negligent in causing injuries and damages to the ons by, among other things, overfilling the implant with saline solution that exceeded specifications from the implant manufacturer and failing to appropriately treat complaints of pain and tenderness. The suit also alleges that

Alderson did not provide appropriate information or otherwise make proper disclosure that the condition and complications she eventually developed were a risk or complication associated with breast augmentation. FEEDBACK:Something to say about this topic? Submit a Letter to the Editor online ~~~~~~~~~~~~ To the Editor: Ms. on's plight with breast implants mirrors many women thoughout the world, duped into

believing that breast augmentation is 'safe.' Although given the gold standard 'safety approval' by the FDA in 2000, saline implants continue to create long lasting local and systemic complications for tens of thousands. I head an international support group for women harmed by their implants. Common complications are rashes, tumors, repeated surgeries, loss of sensation, neurological disturbances, cognitive problems and painful and debilitating fibromyalgia to name but a sampling. The 'studies' done by the plastic surgeons sometimes have had a follow-up as low as a mere 5%. Required 'consent forms' are often given the day of surgery and

sometimes never. The breast implant industry has an enormous public relations budget to obfuscate the real harm of saline and silicone breast implants. Ilena RosenthalDirector, Humantics Foundationwww.BreastImplantAwareness.org
