Guest guest
Bindi, How is Alpha Lipoic Acid used for fibro? I have never heard of it being used this way. L-Carnitine is a part of the energy cycle, isn't it? In some people with fibro, the links in the energy cycle are broken and the different aminos need to be fed. Guest guest
Supposedly, when taken together they help protect cellls and heal damage by stimulating mitochondria production and the strengthening of cell walls, as well as helping to fight free radicals, and help cells produce ATP, which is deficient in people with fibro. Another amino acid I read about that has promise for fibro sufferers is L-argninine, which boosts nitric oxide. This helps relax blood vessels and enhance blood flow, also a big problem with fibromites. The recommended dosage is 750 mg, 2-3 times per day. Many of the ladies here say that raw garlic helps with fibro pain and my guess is that it's due to it's blood-thinning properties, which is why it isn't good to eat lots of garlic before surgery! Guest guest
Bindi, I just read online last night that garlic is a known goitergenic....so people with Hypothyroidsm should not eat it at all! Same with flaxseed, which I take every day. No wonder I've gained so much weight over the last few weeks!freebindi <bindi@...> wrote: Supposedly, when taken together they help protect cellls and heal damage by stimulating mitochondria production and the strengthening of cell walls, as well as helping to fight free radicals, and help cells produce ATP, which is deficient in people with fibro. Guest guest
Honey, I have gained a lot of weight too. We eat garlic and there is flaxseed in our cereal! Most women seem to have gained weight after having these toxic bags implanted into their bodies. This is great information, but Kenda might want to explain this to us, if this is true, we will all be very unhappy. Love to you for sharing this...........Lea ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`` Re: alpha lipoic acid and acetyl-L-carnitine Bindi,How is Alpha Lipoic Acid used for fibro? Guest guest
I did some scouting around on the net and what I found about garlic contraindications relates to hyperthyroidism, rather than hypothyroidism. Supposedly, the lipid-reducing properties of garlic are not beneficial if you are hyperthyroid. Bindi Re: alpha lipoic acid and acetyl-L-carnitine Bindi,How is Alpha Lipoic Acid used for fibro? Guest guest
Leyna, I've got a whole list of goitergenic foods in our files section, and they include many healthy foods, but to the contrary, garlic is listed as thyroid stimulating. (See the article on The Thyroid posted in the Healing Therapies section.) I'd be curious as to where you saw garlic being mentioned otherwise. For me, soy is a definite no-no. I feel terrible after ingesting it, so I don't. However, I feel that we need to decide if the benefit of certain foods override the thyroid factor. For me, they do. By the way, where did you see this about garlic? In my research about thyroid issues, I never saw garlic mentioned. Here it is: mustard greens kale cabbage peanuts soy products millet brussels sprouts cauliflowerbroccoli turnips kohlrabi spinach Unsaturated oils, such as flax, soybean, safflower, corn, and canola. Here's the section on healthy thyroid diet interventions: A diet rich in vitamins A, C, E, and most B vitamins, and particularlyiodine can help stimulate the production of thyroid hormone. Kelp is a good source of iodine, as well as cod and cod-liver oil, seaweed, dulse, lobster, shrimp, crab, haddock, halibut and herring. Other foods, such as garlic, radishes, watercress, egg yolks, wheat germ, brewer's yeast, mushrooms, watermelon, tropical fruits and coconut oil are thyroid stimulating. The amino acid tyrosine is necessary for the production of thyroid hormone, which is comprised of tyrosine and iodine. Tyrosine supplements can helpstimulate thyroid function. (250-750 mg, taken between meals.)Exercise also stimulates the secretion of the thyroid gland.A 2-4 week diet of only raw foods, with heavy emphasis on raw greens, seaweed, nuts, seeds, sprouted beans and seeds, and freshly extracted vegetable juicescan help improve thyroid function. Guest guest
Sunny, See, the same thing has happenned with me-my mental health and memory seem to be better, but I AM steadily gaining weight-very quickly! I don't really feel like my thyroid is off balance though-I can usually tell with that. I don't know what's going on, but I hate it! Actually, I think it was because I stopped taking Apple Cider Vinegar....my energy level really dropped, and the weight started piling on. But every tme I take it, my Fibro starts hurting a lot worse within about 30 minutes.....can't win for losing! lolSunny <wellnessnow@...> wrote: Well, isn't that interesting! I never knew. Guest guest
Bindi, Alpha lipoic acid is a great liver supportive supplement. I take it, as well as my husband, especially since we do coffee enemas. I haven't used the other one you mentioned though. Patty alpha lipoic acid and acetyl-L-carnitine I have been reading about alpha lipoic acid and acetyl-L-carnitine, and how useful they are when used together, for people with fibro symptoms. I wondered if anyone here has used them? Supposedly they help repair damage to cells. There is one supplement called Juvenon that has these in it, and it is recommended by Weil. I suppose one could easily buy them from a reputable source as as well. Bindi
