Guest guest
Dear Helen, I developed Igan, (from a strep throat which gave me nephritis, inflamed kidneys).I was told by my doctor, that if I had my tonsils, that the strep, would not have travelled any further than my throat, (because the tonsils are the policemen of the body. However my tonsils were whipped out, when I was 11 years old! Because I have a high number of I.G.A proteins coating my nasal passages, my throat & my stomach, my immune system is causing the slow deterioration of the filtration of my kidneys. I was also told to be very vigilant on strep attacks, in future, because this could result in kidney failure.!! Now for the good news!! Few people know this!! Many doctors prescribe antibiotics for the destruction of strep. And strep is too powerful to be killed by antibiotics. One day I was visiting my local beekeeping supply house, and I stumbled accross a folk medicine book, by a mr Jarvis. This book explained that (before milk was pasturised) in the early part of the last century;streptococci was prevalent in cows milk. The prevention was simple, after introducing apple cider vinegar into the cattle feed, the strep had completely disapeared!! If you are unlucky enough to have strep throat now, then gargle several times a day with apple cider vinegar, until the symptoms subside. If you have both Igan and a strep throat, then dilute the vinegar to 3 parts water and one of vinegar. It is important to understand that strep infects the entire body, and therefore the last part of the gargle should be swallowed, to disinfect the rest of your system. Strep is often more prevalent in very dry climates. Since I moved from dry Alberta, to humid, coastal Australia, I have not had one attack of strep in 15 years! Hope this can help you. Although, children find it hard to swallow vinegar, I know!!!!!! Sincerely, Pete Hallam/Coffs Harbour/Australia. Guest guest
Helen: I'm new to this support group and to having IGA as I have only been diagnosed since Sept. I'm finding that more and more people are learning about IGA after strep throats. I too had strep throat 4 months in a row and then 4 months later I was diagnosed with IGA. Thanks for the tip on Strep, and the apple cidar vinegar. I too live in lovely southern Alberta. Guest guest
, Your email was extremely interesting and I am sure it will generate interest in quite a few people. I have had my tonsils removed, I live in a humid climate, I seldom get strep throat and the next time I do, I will give your suggestion a go. Are you saying that you still have IGAN but you think you have slowed down the process of kidney degradation? Guest guest
I've bought apple cider vinegar in health food stores. They usually have tons of it. Watch out for potassium though, if you are potassium restricted. Guest guest
When I was first diagnosed, I was asked if I had ever had tea or cola-coloured urine after a strep throat. I hadn't, as far as I can remember. However, we know now that there is a difference between what they call post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, and IgAN. Now, they say that, while post-strep gn is usually self-limiting (and it's an acute gn, not a chronic one), it may increase the risk of eventual chronic gn. However, there is no direct link between strep and IgAN, as far as I know. On biopsy, the immunoglobulin deposits are IgG, not IgA. My thinking is that if you already have IgAN, a strep infection probably doesn't help, as it just increases the chances of insult to the kidneys, and having even perhaps a still sub-clinical IgAN (not yet diagnosed, that is) may predispose someone to developing a more acute post-strep gn on top of it. But, post-strep gn itself does not seem to lead to IgAN. Statistically, post-strep is fairly rare now, and it usually resolves on its own after a weeks, maybe a few months for some. As with IgAN, they can only treat the symptoms. Of course, since we don't know what the cause, or causes of IgAN are, who knows. Guest guest
Dear Helen, Apple cider vinegar is available in any supermarket. Organic, would have to be the best!! Apple cider vinegar is also good for lowering blood preasure! The daily amount is a teaspoonful in a glass of water. Also if you get dandruff, final rinse with A.C.V after the shampoo, and then rinse with clear water. Your hair will also have the best shine. Foot note----- do not put it through tinted hair, as the vinegar will take out the tint. God Bless, Pete Hallam. " Pierre L (groups) " wrote:I've bought apple cider vinegar in health food stores. Guest guest
Hi Derrick, Yes I do have Igan. Because I have the I.G.A. proteins coating my nasal passages, throat, and stomach; this translates to an over active immune system (in other words, I could get a lot of allergies if I were to consume dairy foods, or be exposed to a lot of pollution, either in the air or in the food). So, summing up, -------Because I was unlucky to have the strep, which attacked the most vulnerable part of my body at that time, my kidneys. This resulted in Nephritis. The Nephritis was quickly brought under control, with a course of antibiotics. The continuing presence of protein in the urine, led to further investigstion (a biopsy). The diagnosis was Igan-----a slow deteriorating of the filtration, due to the I.G.A. proteins in my blood. How this occurs, I don't think anyone knows yet! If I didn't have the I.G.A. proteins, I believe I would not have Igan. I am fortunate to have the slow deteriorating filtration. Approximately 10% of all diagnosed Igan cases have renal failure sooner or later. I was told by my Kidney specialist in Alberta, that I am among the 90% of Igans diagnosed with the slow variety, and could go to old age before any real trouble starts. I avoid alcohol, dairy foods and red meats. I gave away my trade----Ladies Hairdressing-----because I became allergic to all the chemicals. Another fact-----many Hairdressers, who stay in the trade for a long time develop kidney problems due to chemical exposure. Permanent wave solutions destroy gas burner jets within a few years in Alberta. The best thing to combat pollutants in the work place and at home------ are negative ionisers. God Bless, Pete Hallam. Guest guest
: I live in Lethbridge Alberta, Canada. Born and raised in Medicine Hat Alberta. From my readings I was finding that IGAN was rare in this part of the world. Sad to hear about your son being diagnosed. I'm only 23, and am finding it hard to realize what life changes I need to make. Maybe for him it'll be a bit easier as he is younger. I had strep for 4 months then 4 months later was diagnosed via a biopsy. I was told that I fall into the category of needing a kidney transplant one day. So far my medication is working. So maybe that day is far far away. Guest guest
, Thanks for that, makes sense, most interesting. I have reduced my meat protien intake and I avoid alcohol. I too am susceptable to allergies as you might expect but unfortunately I am progressing towards ESRD fairly quickly now. I am just waiting for the nod frommy nephrologist.
