Guest guest
Hi Derrick. It's short for mononucleosis (sp). You may want to search and see what you can find out. My donor was found to have had it previously. Rightfully or not, some people refer to it as " The Kissing Disease " . Marty Re: fatigue Theresa, I do not know what Mono is. What is it? Guest guest
Derrick: Yes, mono is referred to as the kissing disease. It belongs to the herpes family of viruses. It is very contagious in the early days of getting it. I received Mono from using a public water fountain at college. The symptoms are pretty much the same of the flu. Severe fatigue, headache, sore throat, chills, fever, muscle aches. My doctor did a blood test and that was when he found abnormal white blood cells. The name is mononucleosis and is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Mono also attacks your immune system, so lots of rest is what the doctor orders. Hope this helps with your understanding of Mono. Guest guest
Derrick, The eosinophils are just one of the types of white blood cells. There are actually several types of white blood cells, including eosinophils, basophils, neutrophils, lymphocytes and monocytes. Normally, eosinophils account for between 2-5% of the white blood cells, but do increase in certain diseases, including when fighting off parasites. Hope that helps. Guest guest
How easy it is to add 2 and 2 and get 5! Don't ask me how I made it all the way through calculus in college since I sometimes add that way too! Basically, the white blood cell counts do rise when we are fighting off foreign bodies such as bacteria or a virus. The white blood cells are really part of our defense mechanism. I find that sometimes even when I feel good my levels will be elevated, and I just chalk it up to them doing their job effectively and fighting off whatever little bug is trying to invade so I don't get sick. in California
Guest guest
Hi Sara, I am also on Epogen, and in my book, it is a miracle drug! It really gave me my life back. You are so fortunate that you have escaped many of the symptoms that hit many of us. On the depression though, it is not uncommon in people with chronic diseases. I myself went through a very severe depression summer of 2001, and I am normally a very positive person. It is awful to be in such a dark place and feel so helpless to climb out. I wanted you to know that you are not alone in this. We are here to support you completely!
