Guest guest
, In Ontario (right?), I know they are revamping the ed system to do away with grade 13. Nevertheless, you still have some kids who cannot do a regular grade 12 (because of cognitive deficits). Other kids get a regular grade 12 but have not taken enough OAC (Ontario Academic Credit) classes and cannot get into university (though the colleges will often take those with a regular 12 and specific academic courses such as a senior English, math, etc. I know your kids are young, yet, but you will need to follow the new courses as they are presented in later grades. The kids should always leave the widest range of options open to themselves (and many kids will shun the tougher maths, etc) so they don't find themselves unable to maneuver around the job market. I know services for special needs students in some of your colleges are quite good. Though I have sent a number of students to Ontario universities, none of them have had special needs. Thus, I am unaware of the services offered. The bottom line? If Ontario streams the kids (who knows what the future will bring), be sure to maintain the place as near the top of the stream as possible. You can always move down, but it's tough to move up after years of " modified " classes. Cheryl
