Dear Lany, I am so sorry to hear about your hearing loss. You need to network with Dawn Alcott- (dalcottmiller@... ), who testified at the 2005 FDA Advisory Meeting regarding her hearing loss. Have you been tested for oxidized platinum? Were you implanted with silicone gel-filled implants? If so, what year and who made your implants? In the " Plaintiffs' Supplemental Submission on the Chemistry and Toxicology of Platinum " it states on page 6 " It should also be recognized that not all platinum toxic effects are distinct clinical manifestations, but include tinnitus, nausea, vomiting, lecopenia, thrombocytapenia, electrolyte disturbances, seizures and cardian abnormalities, in addition to the allergic type responses. " In the summary and conclusion on page 52 it states ... " Platinum salts (aka chloroplatinic acid) can cause systemic disease in humans as a result of toxic and/or hypersensitivity reactions . These toxic and hypersensitivity reactions can range from asthma, rhinorrhea, tinnitus, conjunctivitis, urticaria, fatigue syndromes secondary to impaired oxygen exchange, neurotoxicity, sicca syndrome, and macular rashes. " Please note that on Aug. 1, 2006 after receiving a letter from Dow and a letter from a breast implant consultant, the Editor of Analytical Chemistry tried to discredit the published peer-reviewed Lykissa and Maharaj 2006 research. The unorthodox manner in which the editor refused to publish Dr. Maharaj's response and released the editorial to the media (7-31-06) before it was published, indicates that the editorial was politically motivated. -------------- Forwarded Message: -------------- From: " Ilena Rose " < ilena.rose@...> Subject: Question from our Lany on hearing loss ... Date: Sat, 5 Aug 2006 14:38:27 +0000 (Posted by Lany on her SBIPrayer Forum ... please write her directly and send me a copy of any responses ... thanks from Ilena) " lany " < lany25@...> Dear Members,I wrote you not long ago, letting you know that I had lost nearly all ofthe hearing in my left ear, and that I had severe tinnitus. I don't have Meniere's Disease.Day before yesterday, I went completely deaf in my left ear. I saw anaudiologist today who dx'd me as have " moderate to severe hearing losswith tinnitus " She said I would be a candidate for a hearing aid, but not for about ten years or so.I've not been able to hear at all since Wednesday afternoon, and I'mafraid I will lose my hearing completely, or bilaterally.Has anyone had this problem, or know of a SBI Patient who has? It could be from a dozen different things, but from the very baffled looks on thedoctor's faces, and the fact that my ENT wrote me a hand-writtten letterencouraging me to go to the audiologist for further evaluation, I have to wonder why this has happened, ho w serious it is, and why they are sobaffled, like most doctors get when they are presented with one of our'weird' illnesses.I can't believe all of this . . . I think I'm still dealing with shock and denial.Lany http://community-2.webtv.net/lany25/LifeAfterBreast0/
