Better Introduction from in Florida

Since I have been firmly put in my meager place by the lovely

introduction from the lady in Texas, I had better tell you something

about myself, too.

I am a 59 year old woman, married also for the last time for the past

18 years to my hubby, . I have three children 38,35,31, and he has

four children, 39, 38, 35, 32. We have 12 combined grandchildren with

one on the waiting list for the end of this month.

I quit smoking when I was 40. That year, both my brothers had cancer.

My father had recently died of cancer, and I thought perhaps it was a

good time to quit anything carcinogenic. As soon as I quit smoking, I

began to eat with a vengeance. I started out at about 118, which was

enough for my 5 ft 1/2 " body, and rapidly gained until I usually weighed

in at about 145-155, depending on whether or not I was dieting!

Last year, I discovered I had breast cancer. I had a mastectomy,

chemotherapy for 8 months, and radiation for about a month and a half.

I have had MRI's, bone scans, CT scans, you name it, very periodically

since then and have developed a definite aversion to doctors.

After coming through last years terror of treatments, and I

decided to move out of our condo and buy a house. Might as well live

as long as we are able, and as well as we can. I also decided that I

was sick of looking so darn matronly. called me his " little

apple " ....in other words, I was round.

I went on Atkins diet the end of April and have dropped 20 lbs and now

weigh about 133. I have been on a stall for over 2 months. I keep

plugging along, and am quite scrupulous about this diet. I have

hopes that I will drop more pounds when my body decides it is ready.

I look 100 percent better, and really don't have to lose more to look

good, but I would like to have my weight back into the 120's again.

Appreciate hearing what everyone is doing to live on this diet. There

really are a lot of varieties of things we can eat. I just had one of

my chocolate shakes made with diet cola instead of water, and it was

wonderful!

Thanks for letting me join your group.
