I could not figure it out. I finally talked to my doctor about it and she gave me a little valium a week before and it really helped when I got to the surgery date. Do everything you can to be in good shape. Take some extra vitamin c for healing, eat some healthier food, make sure your bowels are working good, extra fluids. My sister had wisdom teeth surgery where the doctor gave her these instructions and she had little swelling. I took no vitamin c, ate wrong, had caffeine and probably was dehydrated, and I had swelling that was horrible. I have always thought that I will do this when I know I am going to have surgery. I NEVER let any one do epidurals on me for surgeries as I didn't want any one messing with the nerves and my cerebral spinal fluid. I would rather have a general where I am knocked completely out. I have had sedation IV's on outpatient surgeries and have done well, You are not alone in your apprehensions. Just know there are things you can do to prevent them and make it as best as it can be. We will be thinking of you for the best outcome and let us know how it turns out. Bennie
