Guest guest
I find both posts to be intensely interesting and informative. Thanks to both and for sharing this with us. Mike > > Hi , > > Glad to hear the Zoladex is working for you. Thanks very much for your update - in case it helps someone, here comes mine: > > I was diagnosed in December 1999 aged 58. I was symptomatic, with urinary restriction and back pain. Burying my head in the sand I had delayed going to the doctor - I knew something was wrong. PSA was 220. In January I started Zoladex with 2 weeks anti-flare cyproterone acetate. February bone scan was positive for multiple spinal mets. Gleason was 7 and stage T4M1. I could palpate the tumour myself - I was agile! PSA rapidly fell to 1.7 in a month then to 0.6 after 3 months. Consultant said I would respond for 5+ years. Urinary problems and bone pain vanished. Continuing on Zoladex, PSA was always around 0.3-0.5 ish. > > In 2001 I was tested for BMD and put on Fosamax. Bone density improved quite well. > > A bone scan in 2003 was negative for mets. > > 2004 I couldn't get up my favourite annual hill walk and the consultant suggested I get fit. I joined a gym and got up the hill Easter 2005. By then I was doing all-round workouts with some jogging. I guess that was possible by the residual testosterone Zoladex left intact. > > Mid-2005 PSA slowly started to rise (2) and we added the CPA (Cyproterone Acetate) - it came down (0.7). After three months I asked to come off CPA because I could no longer train and was losing weight quite fast. We got a short withdrawal response. After 3 months off the CPA, PSA jumped to about 4.0 - so we started Casodex (50mg daily). I got back to the gym for a short while. 3 monthly PSAs to now: 1.7, 2.5, 3.5, 6.5 > > Unfortunately the Casodex has worn me down and I am no longer going to the gym though I still take walks and do a few exercises with light weights. It's a matter of rationing the remaining stamina. After retiring in May 2006 I still did some support work with the company. That has now been stopped as part of de-stressing. Keeping the accounts for two charities and my wife's business is not too stressful but it's enough! > > That's plenty for now - I'd like to talk about side effects sometime. > > > > > > Re: Oldie Rejoined > > > > > I was just wondering how you were the other day! > > Glad to make contact again but sorry to hear of the progression. > > Have you thought about trying stopping Casodex? This sometimes works > > Oestrogen or Stilbestrol plus warfarin might be the next one! > > Hope you can soon turn this round. > > Best wishes - hope today was good > > > > > > . >
