Guest guest
Mike, I sent Carol several articles, but the truth is CA-19 is about worthless for people with liver disease. (Probably why they won’t pay) When folks with liver disease have a CA-19 blood test the results can be all over the place. When the liver function test results go up - so do the CA-19 results. If someone was having a cholangitis attack at the same time a CA-19 was done the results would lead a doctor or patient to conclude the subject had cancer when in fact they don’t. Waiting until the liver function test went down and doing the CA-19 over again would also show the CA-19 results going down. So they have determined the results are worthless on folks with liver disease. But….CA-19 is great for finding cancer in the pancreas and can be used to see how well cancer treatments are going. But that’s about it. I wish it wasn’t so but after a lot of looking this is what I found. Hope I described this right – probably didn’t. Barb in Texas Son, Ken 28 UC 91 PSC 99 OK group do we have any research studies supporting the CA 19 test in PSC. Let's look thru our archives and see if we have something to arm Carol with.
