I thought it was an excellent book-- it's an autobiography of a woman who successfully underwent treatment for her bpd. kt
Guest guest
Well, I hope her treatment included having to serve some time in jail for battering her helpless 3-year-old child! (I'm not feeling particularly compassionate today, I guess.) -Annie > > > > and found this... > > http://www.bpdcentral.com/books/supposed_chapters/ch1.htm > > > > > This is a chapter from the book " Get Me Out of Here " (originally > titled " I'm Not Supposed to Be Here " , hence the " supposed " in the link) > by Reiland (a pseudonym). Guest guest
I still liked this book. The chapter you guys are all so mad about (and who can blame you, you OUGHT to be mad about it) is at the BEGINNING of the book. You miss the opportunity to watch her struggle through therapy and hospital visits after this if you stop reading. The character undergoes change, and THAT is the part that is supposed to be encouraging. I liked getting her perspective, it is sad and helps me understand how agonizing her own pain is. That's not an excuse for her actions, but it adds a level beyond " she's a selfish bitch. " Nobody ever said it was okay for her to hit her kid. kt > > > > and found this... > > http://www.bpdcentral.com/books/supposed_chapters/ch1.htm > > > > > This is a chapter from the book " Get Me Out of Here " (originally > titled " I'm Not Supposed to Be Here " , hence the " supposed " in the link) > by Reiland (a pseudonym). Guest guest
Although I'm glad that she went through therapy and can now control her bpd behaviors better, what upsets me is that she did not (apparently) get arrested and do jail time for battering her child. I find it jarringly unjust that wife-beaters: adult males with a personality disorder who batter their wives, routinely/automatically get arrested and jailed, while an adult female with a personality disorder who batters someone even more abjectly weak and defenseless apparently will not be arrested and jailed. The only time I hear about mentally ill/personality disordered women being arrested and tried for assault and battery against their children is when they succeed in actually killing their child, or maiming their child to the point where ER personnel are called in, and they report suspected abuse. I consider her lack of arrest and conviction immensely unfair to the battered child, is all. So, I am disappointed if, once again, justice was not done. -Annie > > > > > > and found this... > > > http://www.bpdcentral.com/books/supposed_chapters/ch1.htm > > > > > > > > > This is a chapter from the book " Get Me Out of Here " (originally > > titled " I'm Not Supposed to Be Here " , hence the " supposed " in the > link) > > by Reiland (a pseudonym).
