Guest guest
Yes .. the jury is still out on melatonin .. there have been no studies done as yet that conclusively argues that lupus patients should or should not take Melatonin. As with ANY sleep aid .. there will be periods of morning grogginess, or other side effects. One reason why it is argued that Lupus patients should not take Melatonin is that it can also stimulate the immune system, but it doesnt do it in every person. But .. if you cannot take drugs like Ambien, Restoril, or the other various " sleep drugs " , melatonin is an option. As with any sleep inducing medication you have to weigh the odds on what you want to accomplish. If you have been having problems sleeping for days, weeks, the stress of not sleeping is going to bring on a flare of Lupus. So either way .. we are screwed. But at least with a proper amount of sleep, we are better able to deal with the day to day stresses we find ourselves in. Rion
