How do you " make " a castor oil pack? > Thanks, Hi I use a castor oil pack whenever I do my gallbladder flush. Here's how I do it - others may have different methods. I pour the castor oil onto a folded piece of plain cotton flannel (just don't use anything with dyes in it), soaking it fairly well. I have a plastic bag laying underneath it just to keep any excess oil from getting onto anything else. I put the flannel directly against my skin, right around the gallbladder area and then I put my heating pad on top of that. I usually keep it there for the duration of the cleanse (until I go to sleep). If you don't have a heating pad, you could heat the oil before you put it onto the cloth. Just be REALLY careful that you don't burn yourself. Remember that the skin on your abdominal area is not as 'weathered' as the skin on the hands. So - what feels hot to the touch with the fingers might feel much more hot on other areas. Another possibility might be to have two pieces of flannel and have the oven just on the warm setting. If your spouse is at home he could bring you one piece and let the other one warm and alternate them when the one on you gets cool. Just a thought. But I'm sure you can figure somethign out that will work with your own situation. Castor oil packs are good for so many things! I've just discovered them about six months ago and think they're great. in health, p.s. Had to giggle at this - in my early morning sleepiness I originally gave this email the subject line of " cholesterol pack " . That's surely the LAST thing we want! Guest guest
, yer a sweetie...thanks for the nice post of castor oil packs and I forwarded your congrats to my honey. He needs all the praise he can get...and yeah! I'm really proud of him. We have a colema board and now it's his idea (always mine) to do a bowel cleanse this next weekend. They are terrific. This is what I do now, having tried several other more traditional options (like Mama's which is EXACTLY what the directions tell you to do) prior to this -- again, this is simple, not perfect, not too elegant but gets the job done for me. I line the area I am going to be with black plastic garbage bags (usually 2). I have some OLD bath towels handy. I take a shower or bath to warm up the area and open the skin's pores. I dry off and then take a handful of castor oil and smooth it on the liver area or whatever hurts or is swollen. I like the Palma Christi brand, costs about $4 I think, since its pretty pure -- from heritage products part of edgar cayce foundation- 1-800-862-2923. I buy it from the health foods store here. I then go to bed or get on the couch ON the black plastic bag to keep the castor oil off the sheets or couch. I then cover the area with a WHITE trash can size bag (color is not important <G>, but size is) although a garbage can size will do here too. I cover the white trash bag with a hot water bottle or bottles and 1 or two of those old towels to hold in the heat and then either read, sleep or look at TV. You can pull up the covers at this point and drift off if you can hold those hot water bottles in place (a smaller pillow on either side to hold those guys helps.) It is very soothing to me so I usually end up asleep anyway. I bake AT LEAST 30 minutes although longer is ok -- the worst thing that will happen is that your bowels will get a little loose, but that is a good thing when you are having liver/gb issues. Later (after 3 am) I usually discard the plastic bags since I get hot sleeping on them, but put one of those old towels that are now hanging around on the sheets to keep any final traces of that castor oil corralled. I was told I could do 2 packs/a day if the pain warranted -- I usually do at least 1-2 a week as a maintenance item, more if the area feels tight. Its easy, not my fav smell but the relief makes it worth it. Mama, I never thought of the bottle on your back -- how cool is that. You can certainly use a heating pad. The big issue is getting the oil on stuff. I like the hot water bottle personally since I can control the heat and it will only get cooler as it cools off and I sometimes worry about a heating pad if I fall asleep. Actually I use a hot water bottle nearly every night to keep that bile duct open and elastic. On the Chinese clock , 11pm-1am is Gall Bladder time and 1am-3am is liver time. Most problems usually occur near those times or at 11 am-3 pm in the afternoon. Its called the midday-midnight rule which I doubt anyone cares about but.... I try to solve those sneak-attack issues, since I like to sleep without any excitement by using a hot water bottle (some people might prefer a heating pad) over that area with or without castor oil when I get in bed. Enough.....
Guest guest
The caster oil packs sound nice, and I believe I've read thy pull impurities. But I think that the biggest affect you are getting is from the heat itself...it relaxes the ducts, and when you are lying on your back you are relaxed, easier for things to move out of the ducts and gallbladder, or perhaps if a stone is blocking, when relaxed it will settle back into the gallbladder. My favorite solution for the same thing is my large tube sock filled with popcorn (you can use beans, too) that I heat up in the microwave for about three minutes (varies with microwave)...the corn doesn't pop, and I then lie down and put where it is uncomfortable...usually along the right just under the rib cage, and down the middle of my abdomon. It always helps, and it's not uncommon to feel a thing " gurgle " and relief that follows. Sometime if I'm sitting up, I'll take the heated sock and lean on it where my back may ache and often get the same effect. It's so easy, and I like it better than hot water bottle, nothing to prepare, just pop it in the microwave, can be used for months!
