Cari,

The easy bruising is most definitely a side effect of the prednisone. My doctor and I discussed this yesterday. I am sure since he is 4 years old that it contributes to the bump and bruises. When he is feeling well enough to run around and play like a healthy 4 year old, you would expect some bruises. I would just keep an eye on them and make sure they don't become extreme and that they heal in a timely manner. Prednisone affects the healing ability of the body.

I am so glad that he is feeling better. I know how hard an illness can be on an adult but at least we can understand to some degree what is happening to us. A child cannot begin to comprehend what a chronic illness means.

Gentle hugs,

,

Yes, prednisone affects the way the body heals. Essentially what it does is slows the metabolism and the healing process. It is all related to insulin production and absorption that is affected by the prednisone. That is why so many people having fluid retention and weight gain on prednisone.

-Fern - Thanks for the input on 's bruises. I am

now keeping an eye on his legs like a hawk. They look

good today. No new bruises. I am only one voice here,

and Vicki and Teddi can probably advise you better on

this, but please do not taper the prendisone too soon.

I am so glad that you are seeing an improvement but if

it is working taper off very very slowly. has

been tapering for over a year now. 1 mg. at a time.

That is so very important. stayed at his

initial dose for several months. I want him to be off

of the stuff so badly but I know it is what has saved

him also. Slow and steady does it! Hope you are even

better today then yesterday and that tomorrow will be

even better.

They kept me on 60mg for about 8 mo

although I saw great improvement in only

a couple of weeks......of course by the time

I was dx I couldn't get out of a chair by myself

or raise my arm to touch the top of my head

with my hand, etc...
