Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I have a question. My four month old daughter has a moderate hearing loss in the right ear and severe in the left. I have noticed that she is startling to noises that she has never startled to before. The dogs can come into the room playing and their chains rattling and she turns her head to see where the noise is coming from even when she can't see them. She startles to the phone ringing now and to alot of other noises. This is all without her hearing aids. When she wears the hearing aids she gets real irritated with some of the noises. I talked with the audiologist and she and I decided to have her retested. The only reason to retest my daughter was because she had a large some of wax removed from her left ear. I don't want to get my hopes up though. Has anyone ever heard of a baby's hearing improving? I am wondering if she is just more aware of sounds because she is older now. (a whole two months). She also was a severe screamer. She is just now settling down with the crying. I know we will find out next week but I wanted to get some input on what everyone thinks. Any ideas or comments? Thank-you. Elaine D.
Guest guest
You might want to look into Super High Frequency Hearing. Or maybe hearing for some children just develops later neurological?
Guest guest
Hi Elaine, This is exactly what happen with my son . At birth and at 5 weeks of age his ABR's showed a profound loss in his left ear, and a severe to profound loss in his right. So his first hearing aid was set for this loss. He was also irratated by some sounds to the point his face looked as if it was painful for him, and immediately had the audie turn his aids down. I decided when he was 6 months old to have another sedated ABR done, I felt something may have changed, and we found out with the ABR done at 6 months his hearing had changed!!!! His left ear showed a severe loss and his right ear a Moderate loss!!! I was thrilled!!! I had been told by another mom to have another ABR done when my child was a bit older 4,5, 6 months of age, because their BRAIN is more " wired " . I was grateful I did , because at the beginning, I thought his right ear was the worse, and we were considering the implant, and would have had the right ear implanted, and in reality the right ear turns out to be his BEST ear not his Worse!!! I would recommend having another ABR done on your child, given the responses you stated shehaving you do not want her to be over amplified and hurt the hearing she does have!!!! If you have any more questions for me, please ask!!! Debbie 13 Months HOH ----Original Message Follows---- From: Erd525@... Good luck and best wishes!'
