Guest guest
Rick, you have once again inspired me. I am going to start a walking thing with , who is 15. People comment to us all the time since his birth about how awesome 's muscle tone is. He is tall, thin and lean....no matter how much he eats. He has a natural " toned " look to him, and we have tried over the years to keep him busy socially. I love your posts about your hikes and walks with Jan, and hiking is something, after I graduate in December, hope to take more time to do, and why not include ! I think, because you have encouraged exercising and physical activity with Jan over the years, she has been able to overcome all the medical issues she's had, especially now. You and your family have done a fantastic job and are a role model for me. It is quite evident how much love and devotion exists within your home, family, and neighborhood for Jan. I would love to have the opportunity to meet her someday, in person, because she is truly a remarkable woman. Please tell her I said so! Guest guest
We have a Dr. locally who has been conducting a study through the univesity on children with down syndrome. He came to speak to our parent group and he is a big believer that we need to keep our kids physically active, dance, soccer, baseball, swimming, anything. He thinks not just a little active but a lot. He has seen that the active kids are much healthier, and also learning wise and socially. Not surprising for sure, but it was very interesting to listen to the man speak. Darcy Re: One Day Rick, you have once again inspired me. I am going to start a walking thing with , who is 15. Guest guest
Tim has always been fairly active but has increased his activity levels since he started school 5 years ago. I have never counted school PE in his activity becoz it isn't that intensive generally but he gets two doses of that a week, plus he swims twice a week (one mainstream lessons the other SO), does 2 hours of gymnastics (SO), an hour of football (soccer, an after school club at school) and an hour trampolening but that isn't a solid hour of jumping. Its no wonder he's fitter than me and my other lazy children really!! I am not ready to count chickens yet but we are into week 4 of school and so far he hasn't had any days off school for illness at all, Tims previous school illness record would make this a very unusual thing! I wouldn't put it all down to being active, much of it is simply improved health with age but the improved health has also allowed him to take part in more activities, chicken and egg situation really. sue wong
Guest guest
It is so good to hear how well Jan is doing. I have to say I think she is the person I admire and respect the most in the whole world. There is no way I could ever have gone through what she has. I read all your posts about her Rick, and though I often don't reply she is in my thoughts and prayers. I would be so proud of her if she were my daughter. She really is an example of how to live life to it's fullest extent. I'm sure she will get through all this. You go Jan go. I for one feel humbled by what you do. I know that I could not go through what she has. Love Allyson
