Even if they aren't " snake oils " there can be legitimate reasons for the

cost

of some of these things. In fact, in some cases, if something was too

cheap,

I would personally question the quality of it.

_______________

Rahael, and also, I have tried many products which I personally know are so

benefical, but which many people who haven't tried them refer to them as

" snake oils. "

One product in particular is Livatone from Dr. Cabot. There are

several on this message board that know the benefits of her products. Plus,

I just about couldn't live with Beta-TCP, which I order from a chiropractor

in Ca. This has been a tremendous help to my GB and digestion. Another

thing, I also use a product that has TMG, which is tri-methylglycine and also

called Betaine. Even doctors prescribe this, but it's usually their

prescription stuff. Anyone who is taking SAMe or has liver or GB problems,

should be using TMG. I usually get something called " Cardio-TMG " from the

health food store. It has TMG, folic acid, B-12 and B-6 in it. It protects

against homocystine levels which cause heart attacks, plus it aids liver

function. TMG facilitates SAMe. But they are finding out that it can aid in

weight loss, and it does improve liver function. Anything that improves

liver function should also be helping the GB.

And there will, unfortunately, always be those who give a blanket judgment of

" snake oil " to anything natural or " alternative " . Isn't it interesting how

something natural is considered alternative, rather than something synthetic

and unnatural being the alternative?

The other day I was at the produce store and when the woman looked at the

amount of lemons I was purchasing she made some comment about how I must like

lemonade. I told her that I have the juice of a lemon in a glass of water

every morning when I get up. She said that she'd heard that was supposed to

be good for you and then kind of laughed and said something about it being

one of those 'old-fashioned' remedies. Like it was an old wives tale. I

work with a woman who scoffs at natural remedies and says that they should be

more regulated. yikes.

Anyway...back to the herbs. I agree - each body IS different and what works

for one might not work for the next. It does take some trial and error and

some willingness to try new things. I don't personally use a lot of herbs,

but have found some great success with some essential oils and I'm thankful

that they all exist. :)

Susie, thanks for your post. Yes, there are those of us who know that certain

supplements and herbal products do work for us. It is trial and error. And

sometimes I think we don't stick with a product long enough to see it work. And

some of them don't work for us but work for other people. Each body is

different. Had I ever listened to people who thought all supplements and herbal

products were " snake oil " , I'd be missing out on some very trusted God given

products. And I can pick the herbs locally, but don't have the set up to distill

or whatever to make them more potent. I do use things like Peppermint,

dandelion, plantain, parsey, garlic, etc., from the wild...but also find some

products of like that I may pay for are much more potent. One of my favorite

wellness formulas, for instance is called " Wellness Formula " by Source Naturals.

I've used it for years when I felt a cold may come on. Many times it's chased

away the blues. Now if your body has a " bug " or toxins that are just too

powerful or you don't get to the herbs soon enough...then I find I have to ride

it out and let the toxins purge out of the body. One time I had terrible swollen

glands and Mother said don't come for Thanksgiving reunion if you are sick (to

all us kids)..they are older and being sick is so hard on them. Well, stayed up

for 3 hours in bathroom in middle of night putting drops of oregano oil on my

swollen throat glands and coughed up the phlem and blew my nose. Was well enough

in morning to go to Mothers. Took a few drops for 2 days and never got the cold.

Drops of colloidal silver in an infected eye cleared them up within 2-3 hours

for both my husband and myself, many times. I hate those oily over the counter

or prescription eye drops. I know many natural products that are purchased,

work! I could really get long winded on this subject. BEATS THE COST OF THE

So how are they going to regulate lemons & grapefruit when they get wind of what

we are doing? ROLF! of DH
