Guest guest
hi, just wanted to say I am not to far away in SC. I had a similar situation, leaving a job w/insurance w/the company BC/BS, was only allowed paid coverage for 3 months, not a big enough corp./INC. 2 have Cobra, it was a state program but paid directly 2 the employer who paid the insurance company, kind of like I never left. My new job after a 90 day period offered coverage, but there would be a lapse, and preconditions incurred. BC/BS had a single plan for me at a cost of $368.00 a month, so I ended up going w/UHC which turned out 2 be better. I got approved for disability 2, so I can switch to MEDICARE for $97.00 a month, keep both for a 100% coverage. UHC is an 80/20%-with MA it'll all be covered and RX a 100% too, at least that is what they are telling me. So, total is now going to be $275.00 w/ both, the primary being existing and secondary being the Medicare. Don't know if this helps but for continued coverage (don't want 2 lapse!) BC/BS offered me the best deal cost, but UHC better. Janet
Guest guest
The key to avoid having pre-existing conditions excluded from your insurance is never to let your insurance coverage lapse, if at all possible. As long as you have continuous coverage from somewhere, anywhere, the next insurer has to cover everything the previous insurer covered. I realize this isn't practical for many, but it is important to know for those who have the ability and just didn't realize how important it is not to just let your coverage lapse for a couple of months between jobs. Sometimes you can buy a very basic package from an insurance agent for a couple of months to cover the gap - with a really high deductable and basically no coverage for anything but emergencies to keep the policy cheap - but the point is that then all pre-existing conditions are covered for the next plan under the continuous coverage clause.
