My question to the EPA -- has there been experimentation already in eastern West Virginia/western land with this pesticide? Is that why male bass in the Potomac River have been changing sex for the last 3-4 years (that we have heard about it) ---and this year we are told the former males are now bearing eggs??? What does that mean for the hundreds of thousands of people who get their drinking water from the Potomac???And if the usage is okayed, then that means widespread usage all over the country -- and many millions of people being affected. We are all familiar with chemical companies lack of concern for the health of citizens. Wouldn't it be much safer for us to employ the use of a fly swatter?? Please take the time to read this, and sign the petition. Help support Natural Resource Defense Council’s (NRDC) petition to EPA, asking them to cancel the registration of the organophosphate pesticide Dichlorvos (DDVP).Take Action Now! Your comments must reach EPA by November 13th for their public comment period on this rule. Background Organophosphates are a highly toxic class of pesticides used to kill insects. DDVP is one of those pesticides. In June NRDC filed a petition with the EPA to cancel registration of this toxic pesticide. One of the primary uses of DDVP is for pest strips which people use in their homes everyday. Although the EPA has taken some steps toward regulation, like decreasing the size of strips allowed in houses, these regulations are inadequate to give us protection in our homes, especially for our children.DDVP is also dangerous for farmworkers. It is used as a fogger, which poses serious health problems to farmworkers who apply the pesticide but are not always provided appropriate protective gear. EPA assumes people who use products containing DDVP read, understand, and follow every instruction on the label. That is not the reality. EPA has been reviewing the health risks caused by this pesticide for nearly 20 years without making a decision. It is time for EPA to take this dangerous chemical off the market.
