Guest guest
Yikes, she sounds very snippy and rude. That is unfortunate. Hopefully the doctor you deal with will be much nicer! Guest guest
It is amazing that those working in an office that does implants can say such things. They know the risks. My PS gave me a tiny little booklet stating all the FDA information that women considering saline-filled breast implants. I sitll have this booklet, let me read you word for word what it says about complications. Keep in mind this was in the year 2000 when this was given to me. "Autoimmune diseases. According to scientific studies, women with breast implants in general are not an increased risk for autoimmune or connective tissue disease. However, these studies are too small to detect whether there might be a slightly increased risk of any one of these rare diseases. Also, these current studies have looked only for the symptoms of known autoimmune diseases, rahter than the variety of symptoms that some women report experiencing. Some of the reported symptoms include: Swelling and/or joint pain or arthritis-like pain: General aching Unusual hair loss Unexplained or unusual loss of energy Greater chance of getting colds, viruses, and flu Swollen glands or lymph nodes Rash Memory problems, headaches Muscle weakness or burning Nausea, vomiting Irritable bowel syndrome. Also, I would like to note, this booklet was given to me during my discharge process after I recieved my implants. The nurse "forgot" to get it to me at my pre-op appointment. I never read it untill I went into my basement to find my records about my implants when I realized it was the implants making me so sick. leyna1964 <leyna1964@...> wrote: Ok, I just talked to that Dr. Wallace's nurse, .Again, I did not like her much.....she said that Silicone and Saline breast imlants do NOT cause problems....numerous recent studies have proven this, according to her.She assured me that my insurance will NOT pay. Guest guest
Yes, the nurse sounds very snippy. More than snippy. Obnoxious. When I was looking for doctors, one actually told me that silicone was perfectly safe - even if the implants were ruptured. I never called THAT doctor back. Guest guest
I know. I mean, I truly hope that I can find another doctor who will do En Bloc and take my insurance...I will go to this office only if it is my last choice! To think...their office STILL uses Silicone! That just blows my mind! She said that the FDA has allowed them back on the market now! I told her... " Yeah-wonder why...probably because the manufacturers are making BILLIONS of dollars off them-it doesn't matter if people are dying from them-as long as they get their mone-and the FDA is probably getting some cut out of it too, so they're saying they're safe! Guest guest
The FDA has not lifted the ban but if a patient has had silicone before, they can get them again. Also, if they have had salines that have failed, they can get silicone. The plastic surgeon I saw said he could use them in certain circumstances as well. I don't know what those circumstances are but I didn't fall into that criteria. Guest guest
Yes, I know. But this is not what the doc's office told her. They said that the FDA lifted the ban. The FDA has not lifted any ban! (Actually it was called a moratorium) And realistically, doctors get around this all the time. I am amazed that you didn't have a doctor who would. > >>> Ok, I just talked to that Dr. Wallace's > >>> nurse, . > >>> > >>> Again, I did not like her much.....she said that > >>> Silicone and Saline > >>> breast imlants do NOT cause problems....numerous > >>> recent studies have > >>> proven this, according to her. > >>> > >>> She assured me that my insurance will NOT pay. Guest guest
Righto Kenda. We even have women in our group who were told that as long as they had had saline before, they could " upgrade " to silicone gel ... some had saline put in and then months later replaced ... with no apparent problems yet. Guest guest
Leyna, There are ways to get around the silicone gel moratorium . . . One way is to enroll the woman in a study . . . However, one year, four months after the FDA Pre-Market Approval Hearings, neither Mentor or Inamed's silicone gel implants have been approved . . .and these aren't even the cohesive gel implants that they will be seeking approval for in the not-so-distant future. I understand they are just a signature away from being approved . . . i.e., the manufacturer's have to agree to conditions that they're aren't all that happy about. . . Hopefully, if approved, they will have to continue tracking women if they get their implants out AND will have to provide stats on miscarriages, still born, and the health of offspring . . . . . . IMHO, if they do that, implants will soon be banned. Anyone using them in unapproved ways is subject to penalty. . . . They can be reported to the FDA and/or to the Medical Association. . . Aad they shoulld be. They are risking women's lives . . . as well as their unborn children's. Rogene

Guest guest
THe problem with the FDA approval "with conditions" is that nobody at the FDA has the power to monitor those conditions, and then, what happens if the conditions aren't met? There is no teeth in this conditional approval whatsoever. PattyRogene S <saxony01@...> wrote: Leyna, There are ways to get around the silicone gel moratorium . . . Guest guest
Perhaps what we need to do is get copies of these booklets and take them with us to the doctors offices of every doctor we see, and point out that is says right there in black and white what we are experiencing. If the FDA has acknowledged that these are legitimate symptoms of illness that are being reported with implants, then doctors would be risking malpractice to tell us otherwise! Thanks ! Good job....do you have a publication address for these booklets? I wonder if they have been updated? My PS gave me a tiny little booklet stating all the FDA information that women considering saline-filled breast implants. I never read it untill I went into my basement to find my records about my implants when I realized it was the implants making me so sick. leyna1964 <leyna1964 > wrote: Ok, I just talked to that Dr. Wallace's nurse, .Again, I did not like her much.....she said that Silicone and Saline breast imlants do NOT cause problems....numerous recent studies have proven this, according to her.She assured me that my insurance will NOT pay.
