He's really come quite a ways, hasn't he? > On a totally unrelated note - let me know if this email gets - I'm sending it as > " plain text " . Keep your fingers crossed! It came through just fine Barbara. (keeping my fingers crossed). > I just keep > hearing about how kids start to speak when they get aided, and wish he would > too! Wow, does this bring back memories. When JD was first aided (as ever since) he was EXTREMELY auditory. He did really well with his hearing aids, but expressively, there was very little. It used to really frustrate me because he would only talk when he didn't think someone could hear him, or when his hearing aids were out (bathtime). If he was talking to himself (not really to himself, but to his toys) and I said even one word to him, he would shut right up. Then we put JD on the computer and we encouraged him to use it because we noticed he would talk to the computer while he was playing - it was more like he would decide to practice a specific skill or sound while he was playing. Then when he figured he had the skill or sound down pat, then he would use it with us. Another place he would practice was in the car, but only if he were in the back seat (in those days before we knew the front seat was not the place for a car seat). But then again, he was always like that with most things, he didn't like people to see him trying to do something, he just saved it till when he could do it. Sitting, crawling, standing, and many other things I can think of were like that. For example, I never saw him TRY to pull himself up to stand, he just one day was doing it. JD wandered through and said to tell everyone in the group Hi! Kay
