Guest guest
One of the main difficulties in determining if a person has PLS, is that it's symptoms mirror many of those associated with other neurological disorders. When it comes to motor neuoron diseases, often times the diagnosis is made by exclusion or elimination, based on test results. The list of possibilities needs to be whittled down until the physician is left with one or two " maybes " . It is at that point that the differential diagnosis is made. I feel certain that in the earlier days, PLS patients were grossly misdiagnosed and " pigeon-holed " into some other catagory like MS or similar. However, more and more doctors are beginning to understand and recognize PLS as a separate stand alone disorder and treating it accordingly. I doubt that it will ever get the notoriety of ALS, but we need to remain strong and focused. Since ALS and PLS are kin, hopefully when the day comes that ALS has been tamed, the same " fix " will help eliminate PLS. Have a great day. Kind thoughts always...Doug/St. sburg, FL _______________________________________________________________________________ Subject: Re: PLS From: <PLS-FRIENDSegroups> at ~Internet Date: 4/24/00 10:13 PM Trish: When I was diagnosed 15 years ago, I was told that PLS is the " garbage disease " , when the doctors can't come up with a diagnoses, then they label it PLS. This was told to me by a neurologist at Lahey Clinic in Boston. Rita ------------------------------------------------------------------------ High rates giving you headaches?
