Guest guest
I will just tell you my experience and you will have to decide and I certainly realize that money can be a big decider. I have many of the symptoms that you have in my feet with electric shocks in my toes, other times they feel like ice, then like walking on rocks, numbness and some more. I was diagnoses with neuropathy. I was on neurontin for about a year and a half. I tried all different kinds of doses and different times of the day as I would get very sleepy unless I was on the move but with the pain in my feet you don't do much of that. Then I started falling, or walking lopsided and that was when the lyrica first came out. I have had good luck with it, but I still can't be on my feet for too long at a time, ten to fifteen minutes then sit down with my feet up but at least the pain would go away. This medication made me sleepy but if I waited until around 3PM to start, it worked better but often took a short nap. Then again at 8 and would wake up with back pain as I have a bad back and take another one. It is a trial and error thing. I have talked to two others that had this problem with neurontin but it is cheaper. And the neurologist said I could go up to 2400mg. but I really fell then. I had to start using an electric wheelchair and sometimes a walker. Since I use the lyrica those things have been put away. I just don't want you to think that I am pain free but it is so much better. The only thing that I want to caution you on, if you decide to use neurontin and later go to the lyrica. The Doctor did not tell me to slowly wean off the neurontin while slowly increasing the lyrica. I was in so much pain that first night and the Dr. himself called the next morning as he realized his mistake and told me what to do. This might not happen if you weren't on the neurontin as long as I was. I am on fentanyl patches every two days, and fiorinal with codeine besides so it takes a lot of pain medicine for me. I tried Radio frequency to deaden the nerves but since the Doctor that did my back surgery put so much fusion in, this Doctor could not get to all of the nerves. I will close there but I would like to hear what you do and how you turn out. Everyone is different and I wish you luck. Lois
