Guest guest
The one concern I've had about crockpots is the lead, but even Bee, from what I recall, is OK w/crock pots... I found a clay oven at the thrift store, Joanne. It is a bit of a pain in that you have to soak the base and lid in cold water for 30 minutes before use. But it makes for a tasty roast, for sure! I found a smaller one later on at a thrift store but passed it up... I buy all the glass I can find!!! Glass gallon jars are at a premium!!! We'd made contact with a guy who worked in a hospital kitchen and he was saving the glass for us. Then came christmas and we lost track - or something - and he stopped collecting for us! Then he said the suppliers were not using glass so much so it would be a long time between jars saved.... :-(( Re: Re: (this is long and will not be of interest to everybody) I have just remembered another benefit of the slow cooker, it has helped me get rid of the aliminium foil I used to use (bad girl I know, but I did not know back then) Right now I am on the hunt for clay pottery. Eventually I am hoping to only have clay pots and maybe even plates, may take a while but from the few I do have I can see the tremendous advantages, and just generally feel it is safer to cook this way Glass too! A friend from freecycle kindly gave me a load of glass jars that I am using to store more and more of my stuff in. I even think this makes the food taste better, and it is certainly making my kitchen feel and look more homely
